Post by TWhitt87 »

My trunk leaks and i have had a difficult time locating the source. Has anyone else had this problem or knows anything about it?

my best suggestion is to get in the trunk with a flashlight, close it and have someone spray around the seal with a hose and try to see where it is coming from.

Did you take all the carpeting (sides and floor) out and look for water trails?

i did both of those and there were no drips so i figured it had to be a seal under the carpet so i took it all up and still could not find the source?

Have you checked the seal around the 3rd brake light? That has been a problem for some, and it will only leak under certain conditions. The spoiler bolts is another common place.

there are 2 small rubber plugs on the bottom of the trunklid near the latch, remove the plugs. This will let the water drain out of the trunklid

Check the spoiler attachment bolts, the brake light seals and some have even had issues with the seal between the fender and the rear panel. Mine went back to the dealer 6 times before they got it fixed.

to keep the trunk from holding water, id recommend drilling an 1/8 inch hole (away from the gas tank) to let the water drain out. I did that in mine until i fixed my problem. it was the entire seal for the trunk. 3M yellow sealer did the trick.

Sun roof drain is on the left side of the trunk under the carpet, there is a 1/4 inch tube with a rubber coupler that connects to another 1/4 tube that goes out the fender. My carpet was getting wet on the left side bottom next to the tire well.
Just look for the 1/4 plastic tube that runs down the tire well and goes out the fender. let me know if this is connected together? Because my was clogged and the water from the sun roof actually let the coupler come apart. I used a compressed air to blow out the clog. I have not had the problem since.

Either way check this couple and tube.

Good luck

You should've gotten a small hose clamp and clamped it together so it doesn't leak again.

Something to consider if the line has hose clamps on it, where will the water go if this line is clogged up and the hose is not allowed to separate? Leak inside the car or something like that. I hope not, but this is something to consider.

I think this should be a maintained on a regular basis, anyone with a sunroof should look into this after every 75K mile or so. More often, if there is a chance for debris to get into this drain line.
