Yesterday I changed the oil in the GTO. I also learned that my small Milwaukee impact can lift the car when I was removing that kangaroo guard that protects the oil pan. Didn’t have the car high enough for it to fit in there. |

Changed 3 of my spark plugs over the weekend. *facepalm* Those boots are a huge pain to get to release, especially when it looks like the plugs on my SSEi have never been changed in almost 15 years! I was trying as hard as I could to get even one to let go on the rear of the engine, but they're in there tight. I used vice grips on two of the front ones, but there's no clearance for them on the backside of the engine. Going to buy a removal tool and make another attempt soon. Even with the 1-3-5 plugs changed there's a noticeable difference in how responsive the engine is now. Crazy. |

I did my plugs and wires last fall and it completely changed the way the engine dealt with load! In other news, Penny got a wash and a full tank of gas today. I can't wait to start tackling the list of things to do to this car for Spring time. Weather isn't cooperating lately though... |

Today I installed some LED headlights in the GTO. So far I’m happy with them. Almost can’t even tell a difference from the HID ones except that they are instantly bright and dont need to warm up. |

I changed an axle on the Passat again under warranty. While I was under there I noticed a red puddle on the ground. GTO was leaking power steering fluid. Looks like someone did a shoddy repair with a hose and some clamps. I tightened the clamps and all is well for now. I’ll be ordering new lines very soon. |

Replaced front passenger side axle and wheel bearing on my 2001 SLE. Also changed oil sender pressure switch and changed oil & filter. Oil pressure gauge now reading correct. |

Took the Camaro out for a mini road trip to see some old friends of mine. While I was out, the clutch decided it was time to start acting up. Have to peg the pedal to the floor in order to get it in gear. Made the drive home by rev-matching; hoping a new clutch master cylinder fixes it because I don't really want to spend any money or time on pulling the trans to change the slave or clutch itself. |

Purchased, picked up, and stripped a 2003 SLE, all for the rear right passenger door (I placed a WTB add for the door but had no response in over 30 days). The car I bought was a one owner with 155k miles, bought at Copart. Car had been hit in driver side rear wheel well, snapping the rear lower control arm and the rear driver side wheel was sitting sideways. Won the auction for $200, with fees had to pay Copart $410. Add in another $260 for storage as I was unable to get to the yard on time to pickup. Pulled the door I needed off it. Also pulled a few items like the hood, front bumper, and fenders, as they are all in near mint condition. Brought it to the scrap yard- they paid me $270 in cash for the stripped SLE. I was surprised to get so much. I never took the SLE off the trailer, with the broken rear left control arm, the tire was @#$%^&. Made me cringe to turn in a 3.8L engine with 150k miles that looked super well maintained. Just could not keep it on my trailer and my trailer does not have a winch, so taking the SLE off the trailer to remove the engine posed a big problem getting the SLE back on the trailer, knowing only three of the four wheels are connected to the SLE. I live in a very rural area and have no local friends (I get transferred every two or so years) to help with loading a non working car. All this done in about 28 hours..... |

Slid under the car far enough past the sway bar and reached up alongside the exhaust to get a firm enough grip on the plug wire boots in order to eventually break them free. Pretty sure that spring on the end of the OE boots was stuck on all of them thanks to some light surface rust. Finally got them off and then awkwardly positioned the socket wrench for each one to change the plugs themselves. My right hand is a little scraped up and sore, but all the plugs are finally changed and the engine sounds much happier and runs a lot smoother. 160,000+km on the original plugs. Yeesh. |

Washed both cars. Hopefully we are done with the snow which means NO SALT. Like most areas in the Midwest this April has sucked in the Milwaukee area. 20 degrees below normal and those little nuisance snow falls which mean more salt. Putting the snow blower away tomorrow and pulling out the tractor. 58 degrees here today. A real heat wave!!! |

So this is exactly what I *wanted* to deal with... I put a new clutch master cylinder on the Camaro tonight. Unfortunately, that did not fix the issue that developed last weekend. Clutch chatters, hard to get in and out of gear even with the clutch pedal pegged, clutch makes a funny noise like something is scraping while the pedal is depressed. So the issue is that now I have to drop money on a clutch replacement for a transmission that I intend on swapping out in the very near future. This also takes away from my time to finish the other house project I have going on that should be my priority. So that means the Camaro is going to sit for a while now... Anybody looking to buy a motorcycle? Need to sell it to get the last few parts for the replacement trans project for the Camaro. |

Replaced a faulty HID ballast on Penny, luckily have a crap ton of random retrofit parts laying around. Tightened the axle nuts on the S2000, they tend to click when at factory torque spec. Today, Penny will have an oil change and perhaps her first post-winter deep clean. |

Replaced the trunk shocks on the GTO. Didn’t realize that they actually keep it open and when I took the first one off the trunk came down on me. That was fun but at least it will actually close without slamming every time now. |

Changed the accessory belt that was beginning to crack through. Didn't realize until it was part of the way off that the supercharger belt needs to come off first. Pretty obvious now that I've done it. Also my parents were nice enough to drop off the spare set of steel wheels and tires with all seasons on them as my terrible alignment had eaten through my back tires down to the belts and rendered the car un-drivable. Going to get it into a shop as soon as possible for an full alignment and wheel-swap. |

Had a busy weekend. Helped my brother in law. First we changed the front brake pads and rotors on his 2001SLE. (very easy) We then changed the power steering pump on his 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII. What a job. It took us about 4 to 4 1/2 hours as there is no room to get at it without taking off multiple brackets and various parts. We were under the car and also under the hood. He has a hoist which really helped. We even had to take off the oil filter. Now I know why I have always had General Motors cars. Ford sure had a better idea when they designed that car. Even my brother in law who is a big Ford man was swearing and cussing. We then changed the door pins and bushings on his driver door on his 2001 Tahoe.(very easy) I will say this that my brother in law a big Ford man likes his Bonneville and his Tahoe. I thought I would never see the day where he is driving GM cars. |

I had an even busier weekend. Oil changes on the fleet, funny how they both needed it at the same time. Winter tires removed from the '89 and a set of burners went on. Then hit up a junkyard to pull some parts to make my Camaro wiper blades and sprayers not suck. Then I changed out a starter motor on a '96 SSEi, replaced the huge old 3800 starter for the smaller gear reduction one, then had to fix the engine ground cable on it too. Then I got bored and decided to play with my GXP parts car....................................... What was it I kept hearing you all say about the GXP? Size 9 engine in a size 5 dress? More like size 14 stuffed into a size 2... Backstory - I finally decided to waste my time pulling the drivetrain from my parts GXP. All I have to say is, holy *shoot* balls. Everything on that is "Need to replace X part? Better drop the subframe!" But then they did stupid stuff like putting the heater core hoses in a spot behind the motor that's not really accessible, and some random power steering hose that is also not accessible, and a wire harness for the rear O2 that you have to like drill out a heat shield from the underbody to pull the connector through, and a couple of other things that were odd. I will say, I was surprised how much travel that steering shaft had. Also, that rear motor mount, buried under the rack and pinion and heat shields... But it was too much annoying stupid stuff going on so I sawzall'd my way through it all and yanked the motor out the top/front after wrapping my tow strap around the engine/trans a few times. I won't be using any of that crap anyway, and it's not like I'll be parting it out so, yeah, hack it out was the best option. Took about 2 hours to separate the drivetrain from the car having never done it before. But now I'm having second thoughts about using this drivetrain in my T-type project. It's just incredibly massive. I'd have to make sure that all the disconnects to drop the subframe on it are easily accessible in one central location at least, maybe then it wouldn't be so bad. |

Ordered a front end kit for the Passat. 8 control arms, sway bar links, tie rods and bolts. 196k on Michigan roads have finally done the bushings in. Also ordered a cable to program the GTO cluster. May be able to do a couple for some people and make back the cost of the cable. |
