This is what I did today:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Chfcs ... 7wjNW0QsUi
body seam leaking water into the trunk (steady stream if water is flowing down the chanel) used Flex seal, is paintable once it cures (48hrs)...Water leaks have been killing me on this thing..So far, removed all four door panels, removed and reapplied butyl tape/water barrier on every door, removed headliner cleaned and secured drain hoses on sunroof, had glass shop remove and re-seal rear window due to leak in lower right corner and now dealing with the trunk...thankfully all my other repairs (and hopefully this one too) have achieved their goals and leaks have been stopped. I got a great deal on this car, but man finding these water leaks to get them repaired/stopped has been a chore...hopefully this is the last one (at least that I have found so far) and I can move on to removing the interror seats, carpet etc and cleaning/drying the carpet out, checking repairing any wiring issues (not aware of any malfunctioning electrical or electronics though) if there are any, and checking/fixing any rust/corrosion I might find...thank goodness it's a Texas car and we don't get a ton of rain etc or this thing would have been toast before I ever got a hold of it.

Make sure that the ends of the sunroof drain tube nipples are still pliable, otherwise they may not drain water fast enough and back up into the channel surrounding the sunroof and leak into the interior. I think I have that problem with my front drains ( as they are behind the plastic fenderwells...I haven't opened that up to make sure they are obstruction free and pliable ) as I have water intrusion if I don't make sure the sunroof is well sealed into place properly and lets too much water past the seal.

Today I have decided on Nokian Entyres for my replacement shoes for my dirty girl. Have to figure out how to order them off of walmart.com and still get our Christmas discount on them....

Added a boost gauge and a manual boost controller on the Passat. Made a noticeable difference in power delivery.

I finally ordered my new tires, they will be hopefully mounted by the end of next week, just in time to combat potential snow. Not unhappy with the price, $260 with free shipping. Even if they don't perform awesomely, the price is perfect for what I need right now. I'll let you know how they work out.

what did I do today:

1. installed the Fuel level sender I posted above.
(I have to say, this was a perfectly made kit - and despite the low price ($12.00) was very well made. - https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Fuel-Pump- ... Nl&vxp=mtr )
2. got PK3 key cut & then programmed it to the car.
3. gutted the interior of the car and the trunk.
4. sanded/ground down all the rust in the trunk and interior caused by multiple water leaks the vehicle had before I bought and it and fixed them.
5. treated the areas with Permatex rust converter/inhibitor,
6. primed & painted the treated areas
7. cleaned & dried the carpets
8. reinstalled everything (minus a few trim pieces I didn't bring out to the shop with me.)

Filled her up and gave her her first good detail in a while, only to have it rain 6 hours later. :(

I installed a euro switch on the Passat today. Basically Volkswagen decided that the North American cars can only have no lights or all the lights. The euro switch adds functions for park lamps and a rear fog light, which will be added later.

I wired an aftermarket stereo into a 2003 Nissan Altima that originally had Bose system. After finding the factory service manual and getting the wiring diagrams for the bose system it went pretty well. aftermaket radio's pre-amp outs tied into the factory bose pre-amp input wires.

What made it "Fun" was the fact that whoever had the car before my friend bought it, just cut the factory harness all up attempting to wire whatever system they had in it and just cut everything clean off behind the dash when they pulled it to sell the car (I had to unplug connectors to several things just to get the harness to pull out past the dash to be able to solder new connections to it). It had the tell-tale signs of 2nd rate car stereo "installers" 2ga wire going from battery to trunk, ran through fender around door piller then under carpet to the back. they grounded "something" to the trunks swing arm hinge for the trunk lid. the factory fuse was blown - no doubt from their expert installation.

I'd had my friend go to the junk yard and cut a factory radio harness out of one, but it was a base model and neither of us realized this was a bose system until wiring diagram wasn't matching the wires I had and I happened to notice the amp mounted up under the parcel shelf when I was crawling in the trunk tracking wires.

Happy to say, it's all wired up and functioning...now to mount the installation kit and install the radio...next weekend...he owes me.

Well, that's the nice thing about the 2000 Jeff, Ribbon cables...nothing to cut, you have to use the adapter. Of course, the adapter ( cheap ) doesn't afford a key on power source, so I had to wire that in after trying to figure out why my radio wouldn't work in the morning when it did that night ( I had wired both the red and yellow together, so the twilight sentinel supplied power to the radio because it turned the lights on...and in the morning, no lights needed, so no radio! ).

Nokian Entyres have proven to be an okay purchase. I'm not in love with them, I don't hate them. They are better in the light snow than the Coopers ever were, but I find it easier to get launch slip on dry pavement with them. I don't even have a half a tank of gas on them for miles though, so I have to see how they perform in the long run yet.

Oh, and yeah, washed the car and then it snowed all over it...twice.

I had to make a cardboard shield for the grille on the Passat. The heat can’t keep up with the extreme cold we have been having lately. It actually made it a little better till it gets warmer outside and I can actually fix it without my hands freezing off.

I blew up my plenum trying to get my car started in this oppressive cold weather. Made the mistake of trying a little ether...

Today push came to shove and a borrowed a friends heated garage and changed my thermostat. Car had absolutely no heat and when I checked the coolant I found slush. Put in a new thermostat and flushed the nasty coolant out and it all seems good now.
