I took a trip this weekend and recorded the mileage on the way home. I filled up before I left, then drove 152.8 miles home on 55mph roads. I kept the cruise set at 60 all the way. There were a few stop lights and small towns to drive through, but not many. Filled up when I got home and it took 3.893 gallons. 152.8 divided by 3.893 gallons = 39.2499 MPG! I believe I could break 40 someday :)

It is windy today, must have been heading west.

This was last night, between 8:30 and 11:00pm. It didn't seem windy? I filled the tank using the same method as I always do.

I believe you. I got 35.7 MPG in the Bonneville driving from Rochester, NY to Lancaster, Ohio at about 75 MPH loaded down with crap.

I'd believe it. I got 39 mpg going from Florence, SC to Williamsport, PA on ~15 gallons of fuel over 604 miles. I also got 39 mpg going from Columbia, SC to Hilton Head, SC twice. I've come very close to breaking 40 mpg a number of times. It's a great summertime pursuit.

If you can get 40 mpg and I can get 30 mpg running as rich as I am at 70 mph, then why can't those little 2.L 4 bangers get 80 mpg??

...because they have to floor it to hold 70 mph? :booty:

Oh wait.....maybe they can! #-o

I've averaged 45mpg+ over 150 miles... but it was all downhill, coming out of Yellowstone National Park

Huh...I hope my next Bonneville gets that kind of mileage. The SSE wouldn't do that for me. Even with all new parts and perfect fuel trims, 75 mph trips still averaged 25 mpg.

I get 32mpg at 70-75mph over the siskiyou summit from OR to CA. And that's in the Zilla. 40mpg? I bet I could if I kept it at 60. I'm a believer.

Smellbird and I both hit 40 on the way to a meet in 2004? It was in Michigan mostly, and it was both a 98 SLE and 93 SE.

Jason, sadly, if I drive like I'm 81 it doesn't matter, lol.

Wow. The most I've ever gotten was 30mpg recorded, but I average between 27 and 29 mpg usually. I guess the altitude definately plays a role...and whether or not cops in your area will pull you over for going 60 in a 55 lol.

The very best i've ever gone with the Bullet is pussyfooting with mostly downhill grades over a 10 mile stretch at 50 mph.....39 mpg....but that was an unrealistic average. As soon as I had to accelerate a tiny bit it began to count down 1 mpg per sec.

Performance driving average is 13 mpg.

I remember that -in fact I was just telling someone about that a couple days ago. That was awesome I remember. I know we'd filled up, got on a freeway in Michigan and set the cruise somewhere between 60-65 and filled up like 150 miles later so we could make it the rest of the way to Jim W's without filling.

IIRC, you'd gotten 40.5 mpg in your 93 SLE and Seth got 41.8 in his 98 SLE.

We did it near the border later, because we didn't want to fill up in Cannuckistan unless we absolutely had to

I got 36 mpg yesterday from Buffalo, NY to Dover, DE. Made it on ~15.5 gallons. Going back will be worse, since I have to climb from sea level to ~2000 feet in central PA.

I went to New Ulm. My Father needed help re-shingling his house. I thought about trying to meet with you 00Beast, but the weekend was all work and no play for me

I should note that this was the first time I checked my mileage after having a 4 wheel alignment. Before the alignment, my best was 32 mpg...which I thought was not too bad. I'm glad I got it aligned...and so are my tires
