Do the 6x9's in the rear of the Monsoon equipped cars act as full range or subs? I've got a lil rattle in one and was thinking of ordering a pair of Infinity Reference to replace them. I do need 2 ohm, right? I've read it a million times, I just want to verify.

I am not completely sure, but from what i have heard they're wired together to make 1-4ohm sub from 2-2ohm speakers.

Just realized I posted this in the wrong section. Sorry for not paying attention.
OK, I'll look into some 2 ohm 6x9 drivers and hope they exist. If not, perhaps haro may have some oe's.
*edit*
These look like a great upgrade. I don't see an rms range though. I'll have to research a lil more. Opinions?

Nevermind, I was thinking two 4 ohms wired in parallel as a 2 ohm sub. Two 2 ohms wired in a series as a 4 ohm kinda changes the game...

I was just thinking, is it possible to run the two 4 ohm speakers wired in parallel at 2 ohms, then install some sort of resistor pack to raise the resistence back up so the amp sees a 4 ohm load like it should? Or will the amp cook any resistor you try to use?

IIRC they are 2 ohm subs. I have JBL GTO 928 2-way speakers on my rear deck. Two wires are connected to them are running low frequencies only and come from the amp, and the tweeter currently isn't doing anything. In order to get the tweeters to work, I'll have to splice from the rear door speakers (that run full range from the head unit, as far as I know) and hook them to the tweeters only, which will require soldering and void warranties.

Not the ideal solution, but either way, the speakers were cheap (considerably less than your eBay link!) and I have better sounding and harder pounding bass.

Yes, I do recall you posting that solution now. Yeah, that's the problem I'm to get around. The waste of perfectly good tweeters in two or three way setup. Hmmm....

Wait, wait, wait. The restitor idea should in fact work based on a mod that some 00+ base Deville owners have to use. It hadn't dawned on me before, even while posting the above post, other then the idea of the resisitor itself. What I wasn't realizing is that the application is basically the same.
00+ base Devilles (non Bose) have a 10" 2 ohm dvc sub in the rear deck. When people want to add an after market amp and subs, they just run the wires f rom each side of the sub to a loc. But, sometimes the Bose amp doesn't like it when it doesn't see the load from the sub so you get some weird intermitent no sound conditions. The solution? Place a two ohm resistor on each "channel" just before the loc. So, the moral of my story is that there are resistors that handle the output of the amp without getting cooked so the solution I listed above should be the answer. Hopefully I'll have the money to get on this soon and report back. I have a BIGGER fish to fry ATM.

You could add a resistor, but I wouldn't. Two reasons: when you add the resistor, it will share approximately half the load. So that means you will need to source a high wattage resistor (10w or more) so it won't burn up. This isn't something you can walk into RadioShack and pick up. Then, since the resistor is using half the power and turning it into heat, this power is wasted and not turned into sound. You would be better off fitting additional speakers rather than resistors. My 2 cents...
