Post subject:  Window Channel Guides...

Good morning folks!

I have been searching (unsuccessfully) for window guides for our family's 1989 LeSabre. This is the plastic clip that locks into the hole in the rear edge of the window glass. It has a ridge that snaps into the window track channel, and keeps the window glass from falling forward when rolled down.

All of the parts stores stock the same incorrect parts. I have tried Dorman 45299, 45297, and a few others that I can't remember or can't find the package for. It seems that there are many, many different types.

Has anybody located the correct window channel guides for the FWD C / H body cars?

A big problem is that many parts books mix up the RWD and FWD cars in this year range. This is awful because they are not the same car and no parts interchange. This is the case with Rock Auto it seems.

If anyone has successfully located these guides for a front wheel drive LeSabre, please share the part number. :)

The picture is an example of a window guide. This one is not necessarily correct, but it is similar.

In searching here, I found one thread which mentions these guides. There was no answer given.

Thanks in advance. I really appreciate it.

It would be helpful in the future if you list the specific model, rather than assuming anyone here knows which LeSabre models were fwd in 1989.
It appears that the 1989 LeSabre fwd models had the 3.8 liter engine which was in all models except the wagon which has the 5.0 (according to Googled results).
The fwds included the base model, Custom and Limited, so it seems.

Whenever I buy parts, I find it spares me a great deal of aggravation to look it up on the manufacturer's website myself to verify fitment.
Looking up the part on Dorman's website yielded this: http://www.dormanproducts.com/p-4996-45296.aspx?year=1989&make=Buick&model=LeSabre&parttype=Window%2520Guide&origin=YMM&drivetype=FWD

Anyway, it looks like they have the right ones for sale here: http://www.clipsandfasteners.com/Window_Guides_s/216.htm
Here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Front-Door-Window-Guide-GM-Part-Number-20747509-Bag-of-10-/161884825785
and
Here:http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/buick/lesabre/20747509/1989-year/base-trim/3-8l-v6-gas-engine/body-cat/glass-front-door-scat/?part_name=door-glass-clip
and it even looks like the right ones here: http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/buick,1989,lesabre,3.8l+231cid+v6,1019506,interior,window+guide,10334

I hope you let us know if these are the right ones, so there won't be a 2nd post with no useful info about the guides.

Depending on what you're working with, I has the abilities to 3D print things. A clip like that might be a viable option for a 3D print.

If none of those clips work out that is.

Hey David, Try these numbers... These are straight from my H Body listing..

Front Window Guide GM Part # 20747509

Rear Window Guide GM part # 20477850

Just wanted to take a minute here and say that the 86-91 LeSabre, 86-91 Olds 88 and the 87-91 Pontiac Bonneville are one in the same, many parts interchange 100%

The C body cars from 85-96 also have a battery of parts that interchange with the H body cars... The C Body was simply a stretched H body or you could say the H body was merely a shortened C body..

The Buick Park Avenue, Olds 98 and a handfull of the FWD 85-93 caddies also fall into this category.. Its one of the reasons it would be easy to park a Caddy 4.9 in any old H body... These cars share a lot in their platforms..

Hi Don - thanks so much! I found these online and the picture shows the correct part. I'm going to see if our local GM dealer has it. There are still a lot of older cars on the road here, so there's a chance.

Either way when I get it, I'll post a followup about the fitment. :)

Sincerely,
David

OK got a conclusion!

I took the number from Don (20477850) to the dealer, and they ordered it. But, without telling me they crossed it to a 12337898.... which DOES NOT fit and is the same thing all the auto parts stores had sold me.

So; I finally had to go to Birmingham to the salvage yard and remove a guide from a similar car. It was, of course, destroyed during removal... BUT it did have the part number 20477850 moulded into the plastic. With the remains of a correct part; part number; and the wrong one they ordered, I went to the dealer and finally they were able to order the correct item.

The 1989 LeSabre sedan uses the following REAR DOOR WINDOW guide:
20477850
It is a half-circle, small part.

Thanks for the help again; and it is disappointing that the dealer went out of their way so far to give me the incorrect part.

Sincerely,
David
