So I'm having to use my 01 for some deliveries. I don't like to, but as many of you know, the 88 is with my mom and another driver is borrowing the truck. Anyway, I've been having hesitation issues at heavy acceleration, so I take her out and get on it a little trying to duplicate this problem and by the time I reach my delivery I start to smell something that makes me scream. Tranny fluid. I make the transaction with the customer and start looking at her. If you don't know, I just got her out of the tranny shop about a month ago after a major rebuild. The day I got her back I had to return her to have them reattach a cooler hose, that's where I remember the smell. So I'm looking around and find that it isn't the same cooler hose, it's the upper hose to the cooler and it is completely off of the fitting!! Again with the screaming. The problem is the clamp that holds it has broken at the band. Ok, so I call the store to send my son to get me and they have of course gotten busier since I left. I get back to the store and have to take one last delivery. I make the run in my truck, because the driver that was borrowing it has gone home for the night, and hit Walmart on the way back. I go to automotive and hardware and can't find any clamps. I ask the guy working that dept. and he says their out. Again with the screaming. I can't leave her where she is overnight so I have to think of something, let me tell you zip ties and the new duct tape. I pushed the hose on the fitting, put 2 zip ties on after the bulge in the fitting and it has not leaked at all. Got back to the store at about 2:30 am and had to try to get this in. She had lost 8 qts. of tranny fluid!! Anyway, she's back and that's all I care about.

I would have a fit with the shop that did the work... When you loose 8 quarts you can so some damage to the internals of the transmission... What kind of warranty does it have on the rebuild?

Finally got time away from the store to take her back to the shop. The zip ties were still holding fine but they replaced them with a new clamp anyway, fluid level was just a smidge over full. She still shifts just great. They told me if I had any more problems not to hesitate to call and bring it back. Nice people, they really take their rep seriously. They are the best one of the two transmission shops in the county. The only drawback to any of this was I had to put Dex 3 in it because that was all I could find when the hose came off. Oh well, next fluid change I'll go back to Dex 6.

With the cooler line fixed I thought all was well until last night, I'm on a delivery and chk engine light comes on. Heavy shaking in tranny and engine compartment. I get to the delivery and put scantool on. Dammit, torque converter circuit stuck. Headed back to shop today.

Means the electronic pressure control solenoid failed or possibly an issue with the pressure plate iirc

Are either of those major fixes? Not that I don't think they can take care of it. I just want to get an idea of how long she'll be in the shop.

Depends on weather or not there was any damage done to the transmission... Hard to say... But chances are they will remove the trans or drop the sub frame... Kind of depends on what they need to do and how they do it...

just a quick update, she's still in the shop. They had 2 of their mechs out with the stomach flu last week and one of them happens to be the one working on my car. GRRRR! Anyway, they have it on the lift again so maybe it won't be long, now. I do wonder, should I get them to replace the tranny mounts while their under there or wait till they wear out? She has almost 170,000 miles and I don't know if they have ever been changed, also are there any upgrades in this area?

The only mount to be upgraded is the front, but you can do that yourself with a jack, 8" bolt and some hockey pucks, lol.

Here's the latest, called to see how repairs are going. Found out that the differential had gone out and they just got the part in from Atlanta today. It'll be Tuesday before they will have her running again. :angry7: #-o Any thoughts?

Is this gonna be something that should have been checked when they did the rebuild or is this gonna be something extra that they could not have foreseen and I'm gonna have to pay for? They haven't said anything about any extra money yet, I'm just trying to prepare for the worst case scenario.

the diff isn't an automatically replaced part, yet it is supposed to be inspected. If it busted between the rebuild and now, it should have been worn enough to be replaced at the rebuild. If it did frag, the whole rebuild will have to be done again. not sure if they will cover it, unless you see a diff in the invoice.

Maybe that's why it's taking longer to get it back. I told them last time I called to check, I don't want it rushed, I want it right.

Generally in a rebuild you pull the parts out of the diff... Inspect the spider gears, The Diff Pin, the roller bearings, spacers, Pinion gears and roller bearings as well as the pins for them... all of these should be cleaned and inspected... If they are in good shape they can be inspected and reused.. If there is any damage then the damaged parts should be replaced..

Must've been something they missed, if he checked it out like you described. Guess we'll find out on Tuesday.
