Not true at all. The engine was just completely rebuilt less then four months ago and all new freeze plugs were installed at the time. There is no reason for them to be leaking.
The car itself, yes is 28 years old. The engine however, other then the block, crank, and rods is all brand new including the freeze plug that is leaking.

Upon further investigation today, I see I do not need to pull the transmission to repair a leaking freeze plug (WHEW!!!) instead I have to pull the water pump off to replace the gaskets between it and the block. It is leaking down the front of the block then following the ridge between the oil pan and block all the way to the back of the block making it look like the water is dripping from the back.
I am SOOOO glad I don't have to take the trans out now!
