Well, thanks for the feedback. I guess that the money that I would spend on that swap could just go towards a nice 3rd gen Camaro like I really want. I think the kid in me is dying hard and I just want a car that gives me a stupid grin.
Honestly, this car isn't paid off so selling it would be ...

Re: Another Crazy Idea (LS4 Swap?)
Beast, I respect your encouragement to make the responsible choice but I'm not really looking for advice. There's a 95% chance that I won't make any changes to my car, a 2% chance that I'll fix it and then a 3% chance that I'll actually do anything performance wise. I know what I should do, but that ...

Re: Selling my GMOS-05
Crutchfield says I need to -09. Is the -05 without Monsoon and with OnStar? If it is then I'll probably take that since I run aftermarket speakers with an amp off of RCAs from my aftermarket unit.

Re: Another Crazy Idea (LS4 Swap?)
Haha, yes. We did cover that in the last topic.
Selling the car isn't an option right now--I don't want to get into the reasons, it's just not in the cards.
I've found a guy on the Cadillac forums who does PCM tuning (AJ at PCM Calibrators) and I'm asking him what his gains tend to look like on a ...

Re: Another Crazy Idea (LS4 Swap?)
That was the thought that I was having, but there are fuel delivery issues and body management as well. Do the rest of the modules need to 'see' the PCM from the Bonneville or would I be okay using just the PCM for the LS4?
Also, the starter issue can be worked around--I've seen a thread where a ...

Re: Another Crazy Idea (LS4 Swap?)
Oh wow, that's interesting.
My main interest is in getting more power. I know that it's been an old adage around here that you can't tune the Northstar PCM. I'm finding, however, that some folks are saying that they can flash the PCM:

Re: Another Crazy Idea (LS4 Swap?)
I see. That's kind of the feeling that I was getting. The problem is that I've spent most of my time around third gen Camaros. They're great because you get the benefits of EFI without the drawbacks of all of that integration. Because I've worked with that mindset, I think in terms of everything ...

Another Crazy Idea (LS4 Swap?)
Hey everyone. It's safe to say that I have too much time on my hands thinking about this kind of stuff. Considering how well my last post like this went #-o , I figured I would give it another go.
This thought was spurned by it recently coming to my attention that I have a bottom end oil leak ...

You were actually one of the folks that I would hope would chime in this time, I was just hoping that your first response would look more like the one you just gave. I really appreciate ...

Re: Call Me Crazy--Just For Fun... (LS4 AWD?)
With all due respect...
I'd like to stay away from the "too much money--just buy an Imp SS" arguments.
I understand that this is an engineering issue--I do have a bit of a background in engineering and was hoping to have a conversation on that level. I'm not a parking lot king looking to put a ...

Re: Call Me Crazy--Just For Fun... (LS4 AWD?)
I'd like to stay away from the "too much money--just buy an Imp SS" arguments. The truth is that the Bonne GXP is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful cars ever made and mine never stops taking my breath away when I walk out to it. The longer that I hold onto it, the more that I realize that ...

Re: Call Me Crazy--Just For Fun... (LS4 AWD?)
Hmmm, I see. I certainly wouldn't be able to do any of the work myself.
But you don't think that out of all of the folks that I've seen bemoan GM for not offering RWD options on the Bonneville, Imp or MC, none of them would be interested in a moddable, professionally executed alternative drive ...

Re: Call Me Crazy--Just For Fun... (LS4 AWD?)
Yeah, I think that it would take a significant amount of engineering. A custom fab job for the exhaust would likely be the easiest part of the project. I like the idea of an LS4 because of the mod market, but the garbage transmission is certainly an issue. I wouldn't mind losing traction control too ...

Please ignore this post. I did a bit more research and found that this whole idea is romantic and stupid involving a mechanical comprehension surpassing my own.

Re: Your Bonneville Experience
I bought mine with ~76k on it over a year and a half ago. Since then I've had to do valve cover gaskets, water pump, engine mount, valve covers need to be done again, oil pan gasket, full front brakes once, power steering lines, I have water stains on the back seat from some leak somewhere, and I'm ...

Re: Just purchased a Gxp bonneville...couple issues need hel
I agree with Zim on the coolant. Check your coolant level--you might have a leak. I had a leaking water pump and my heat wouldn't start blowing hot until ~210*. Water pump was replaced and the car heats up just fine.

Call Me Crazy--Just For Fun... (LS4 AWD?)
Hey everyone, I was surfing GMForum.com and came across an interesting thread:
http://www.gmforum.com/performance-brainstorming-tuning-96/ls4-swap-possible-296156/
The general idea is making an LS4 powered Pontiac Bonneville. I know that it's been discussed on this forum a bit, but I'd like to ...

Re: Overheating and No Cabin Heat
Thanks for the replies everyone.

Re: Overheating and No Cabin Heat
Okay, I'll be sure to check that. I couldn't find the radiator cap and I know that usually you put coolant in the radiator too. Do we just have the cap on the surge tank or what?
I'm also considering a coolant flush from the dealership. I'm getting close to 100K and I have no idea the last time it ...

Re: Overheating and No Cabin Heat
Update: I added coolant to the system. I'm still, however, not getting a timely reaction out of the heat. With the engine fully heated up (about the second small hashmark above the middle of the sweep), it's still blowing cool air. This is a big deal since I don't have heated seats and it's only ...
