Re: A sad Goodbye

My bonnevilleGXP had 102523 on it at trade in and they gave me $6500 citing the I. shaft issue and a window regulator was out in the rear passenger door. I did have a few interested parties on craigslist that offered $7000 but I was unable to wait for them any longer at the stage I was at.

Re: Stepper Motors

Update: I had my dash sent out for repair to a guy in Winona, MN. Did the whole dash for $150 and included a lifetime warranty. Got the dash re-installed and works perfectly. I recommend if soldering isn't your thing, I would just find someone else to do the fix, the GXP instrument cluster isn't ...

Re: PENNY IS UNDEAD

You just need to swap the L36 sensors and a good (preferably the APN sleeved) UIM onto the L26, along with the accessories (alternator, PS pump, etc). Should be extremely straightforward.

Isnt the L36 the supercharged version? We currently have the 3800 series II (non-supercharged) engine so I ...

Re: PENNY IS UNDEAD

If I can convince my dad to go with the L26, how much conversion is needed from the 3800 Series II (NA) engine?

Re: PENNY IS UNDEAD

Yeah I thought so too, but my dad doesn't want to chalk it up as dead yet...

And to my surprise, I think he wants to attempt to fix it/rebuild the engine! Completely caught me off guard but well see how it goes. Got any tips?

Thanks for all the help!

Re: PENNY IS UNDEAD

Once we get some time to get back under the hood of the car, I will take a look at the oil and oil pan. Where is the best place to look for the 'milkshake' oil? Just at the filler cap?

Thanks again for the help. May be a few days before I get to it as we have some family stuff going on, but I will ...

Re: PENNY IS UNDEAD

Hey just noticed this thread and am having issues with my parent's '00 SE. She died on us last week and have since changed the spark plugs, tested the alternator, checked the battery, replace the idle tensioner, replaced the serpentine belt, and checked the coolant. At first we couldn't get it to ...

Re: Starting Issue

How much do rebuilt/used 3.8s go for these days? Is there a thread that shows the installation?

Yeah, that's kinda what I was fearing too. I was just hoping to get lucky I guess. Thanks again for the help guys. What would prevent oil from moving properly?

Re: Starting Issue

We did try it with the belt off at the start last night and at that point it did not run on its own. After changing out some plugs and charging the battery again is when it ran on its own for that short time.

We can test out the MAF next. How would we know that is the deficient part or what do we ...

Re: Starting Issue

Well did some more work on our poor '00 Bonneville SE and would say we got a bit further, but the engine is still struggling pretty bad. Additional work we did last night was had the alternator checked, checked and charged the battery (again), replaced some of the spark plugs, and checked the spark ...

Re: Starting Issue

Update: My dad got the battery charged, tried starting it, and said it didn't turn over, but sound "like it wanted to." Still had the squeak sound.

He did mention a small smell of rubber possibly. Could the belt be too tight? When we were moving the tensioner to put the new belt on, the bolt ...

Starting Issue

Hey guys, having a bit of an issue with my parents' '00 Bonneville SE and could use some ideas....

The car has around 189k on it and finally decided it needed a "break" last week. Before this break, the car seemed to run fine (had its fair share of issues, don't get me wrong), but we were looking ...

Re: Front Suspension

I have the same things going on with my GXP; bought mine off some farmer and noticed missing stabilizer links, minor intermittent shaft "clicking," and ball joints that ride extremely hard (haven't had time to get under the car yet). But I guess I wasn't completely surprised considering I don't know ...
