Re: The end of the 3800 for GM

:sad5: 9:55 am, August 22, 2008 marks the end of an era. This day, the last 3800 engine was produced at the GM Powertain Flint North plant in Flint Michigan. There are some pictures of the local Buick club visiting the plant to witness the last engine made...the cars they brought, and the last ...

Re: How to replace rear transmission mounting?

Update. I ordered the parts April 1st around 9 am (local time), the drop links and bushes arrived on April 2nd, and the mounting bush the following day. I can't fault FedEx for service! :)
It took a bit of wriggling on my garage floor to put it back together, but was straightforward enough, the ...

Re: How to replace rear transmission mounting?

Well its off. It's toast, the rubber has split everywhere. To get it off I disconnected the exhaust at the cat, loosened the rear subframe bolts (without any dramas I'm pleased to say), supported the engine using the bracket that holds the plastic cover at the rear, disconnected the steering rack ...

Re: How to replace rear transmission mounting?

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have until Good Friday to do the job. It will be on my garage floor, I can raise the car 4 feet off the floor to do the job, not ideal but I'm very time rich since I retired, and I can tackle the job as and when I feel like it. I have an engine hoist and support beam ...

How to replace rear transmission mounting?

My 1998 Park Avenue needs a new rear transmission mount. Looks like I need to remove other stuff to get to it, can anyone walk me through what's involved please? It's a standard (not supercharged) model. I think I have all the basic tools to unbolt it, do I need any special tools for this job?

Lets hear it for Harofreak00.

Harofreak agreed to send me a hood ornament retainer for my '98 Park Avenue. :)
He ordered the part, then forwarded it to my UK address, it arrived today. :)
This was done before I paid him, so he took me on trust, although payment is in the mail I only posted it on 07/13.

Just letting everyone ...

Re: Window Channel Guides...

I'm having a plastic door lock quadrant made for my Chryser 5th Avenue by 3D printing right now.
I'll let you know how well it works, might be a way forward with unobtainable small plastic components.

Re: backlights not working on dash switches. 1998 Buick PA.

Thanks for the offer, but shipping twice across the Atlantic would make it a long process.
I'll do it myself, hopefully. I have soldering eqipment, and all the time in the world to do it.

backlights not working on dash switches. 1998 Buick PA.

The hvac controls under the radio and information and trip set & information switch panel to the left of the steering column don't light up with the rest of the lights. All the switches work properly, but I can't see them at night! I guess it's most likely bulbs in both cases. Can they be changed or ...

My third high mileage 3800 engine.

To add to my 150k miles 1986 Olds 88, and the 162k miles 1987 Buick, my current 1998 Buick Park Avenue has north of 170k miles behind it.

Anybody want me to mail them some cash?

The hood ornament retainer on my 1998 Buick Park Avenue has broken. A new retainer (GM part # 25642494) sells for between $9 and $16 from outlets I've seen online.
However many places won't ship outside North America - I live in the UK. Those that do want $130 for shipping a 0:6 ounce part the size ...

Re: Turn signal flasher?

Where does the turn signal clicking come from?
It's a mechanical noise from the flasher unit, which essentially a self controlled relay.

I'm in favor of the German style units which flash at a constant rate not dependant on the wattage load (how many bulbs they light up). Very useful for when I ...

Re: ABS/Trac off lights on. Fixed!

Good to hear it was a simple fix.

All of my local parts stores would definitely have the Bonneville rear wheel hub in stock. :dontknow: Might be a region thing, there are a ton of them around here.

I guarantee no UK auto parts stores (or motor factors as they are called over here) will have ...

Re: ABS/Trac off lights on. Fixed!

The hub turned up yesterday, 5 days to get from from North Carolina to my porch.
Now the new hub is on, and the ABS/Trac off lights stay out.
I dare say the problem was a corroded reluctor ring, a shame I had to buy the complete hub assembly. Having said that, it cost about the same as a hub for a ...

Re: ABS/Trac off lights on.

I spun up the wheels, got readings from both fronts and drivers side rear, nothing from passenger side rear.
When I bought the car it came with two spare headlights and a hub. But it's a front, so I've ordered a rear from RockAuto. $82 including duty & shipping to the UK.

Passenger side a/c actuator. Fixed!

My 1998 Park Avenue only blows hot air on the passenger side. I understand from previous enquiries it's probably the actuator at fault.
But I don't know how to get to it. I've looked under the dash and can see a plug fitting not connected to anything, but can't figure out where it might go. Is ...

ABS/Trac off lights on. Fixed!

My 1998 Park Avenue has the ABS and Trac off warning lights on. I removed the wheels and checked the sensors with a multimeter, all showing very little resistance. With the battery disconnected I also checked resistance from the plug to the sensors, reading 50 ohms from the fronts and 49 ohms from ...

Re: Oil pressure warning light on. Fixed!

New switch from Rock Auto (genuine GM), plus a new front transmission mount. Now the oil light goes out on startup and shows 65psi cold, which goes down to 40psi idling hot according to the information display.
Thanks for your advice guys, always check the obvious first.
