Hey guys,
I have an 03 SSEi and I've had an SES light on for a few weeks now. It was originally accompanied by a check gas cap message. I bought a new cap and that fixed both lights for a few days but then the SES came back, no gas cap message though. Scanned it for codes, it was showing p1441 EVAP ...

Re: Bad Engine Knocking
Well if that is the case then it is one hell of a deal. Was planning on a junkyard motor but a rebuilt one with a 1 year warranty for half price is certainly a better idea. As well as real peace of mind.

Re: Bad Engine Knocking
Are engines on that website brand new or rebuilt?
Also, what's the difference between a cataloged vs a non cataloged passenger car?

Re: Bad Engine Knocking
Revisiting this thread with an update on the situation.
I had the car towed to the dealer a few days ago so they could confirm that it is indeed a spun bearing. The guy from the service dept said that it would be around $2200 to have an engine installed.
I told my dad about the whole situation ...

Re: Bad Engine Knocking
I suppose I simply have just about the worst luck ever with this car. Seemed like I was buying a Bonneville that was extremely well taken care of, and ended up with the one out of a million 3800's that ended up not being bullet proof. Friggin a, man
Thanks for the help guys.

Re: Bad Engine Knocking
Well then I'm not sure what I should do. If the previous owner drove it with the gaskets leaking and traded it in like that, then it seems to me that when the dealership changed the gaskets they would have known that there would probably be a more serious issue in the future. And simply replaced the ...

Re: Bad Engine Knocking
Could driving the car hard at all for any amount of time cause this or is it more likely that it was simply going to happen eventually? Maybe because of the intake gaskets leaking and perhaps not being changed soon enough?

Re: Bad Engine Knocking
This happened last night, and I started it this morning before driving the girlfriends Jeep to work. The knocking wasn't as loud but it's still there. Oil pressure was a bit more in the normal range than last night as well.
Edit: just came home on lunch break to start it. There's no knock at idle ...

Re: Bad Engine Knocking
Not sure exactly, I'd have to look at the paper work that shows the mileage it was at when I bought it versus the mileage it has now. But I haven't even gotten to my first oil change yet. To make a guess, I'd say I've put maybe 2k on it so far.

Re: Bad Engine Knocking
Looked at some other topics with similar symptoms and based on the fact that the dealership I bought the car from changed the intake gaskets out because they were leaking before I bought it, seems like maybe coolant got into the engine and cause a bearing to spin. Which means I need a new engine ...

Bad Engine Knocking
Hey guys, I was out cruising around, doing a couple of pulls so I could listen to the supercharger whine. Car seemed to be running fine until I pulled up next to a building and could hear a strange noise I'd never before heard coming from it. I looked down to see the oil pressure was dangerously low ...

Re: how do YOU close your hood
The hood struts on my SLE didn't hold the hood up when the outside temperature was below a certain threshold, so it often closed itself. On to the back of my head.

Re: 2000 ssei cluncking
The noise that a bad ISS makes, how does it sound exactly? Because at low speeds and when like backing out of a spot, I get a sound that's like a clunk but it's also got sort of a resonating tone that follows the clunk, maybe like the sound of vibrations moving through a spring. It also sounds like ...

Re: Premium gasoline
It's interesting because there's a Seneca Indian reservation about 20 miles from here and I used to get gas there all the time without any problems. But others have told me not to use it because it's bad gas and messed up their fuel filter/lines.

Re: Premium gasoline
Qwik Fill is really the only "chain" gas station in the area, with multiple locations all over the place. Pretty much everything else are locally owned gas stations and garages, so I'd have to just inquire what brand of gas they sell. There is a BP and a Mobil station just outside of town, if the ...

Re: Premium gasoline
It's sketchy for them to say 89 is premium if it really isn't. And then to jump from that all the way to 93 without offering anything in between. Maybe I should just go somewheres else.

Premium gasoline
I've never had to put high octane gas in any car, so now that I have to I'm a little confused on what octane rating is actually considered premium.
The owners manual says to use anything over 91 octane, but at the local Kwik Fill they offer 89 octane labeled as premium and 93 labeled as Super Kwik ...
