Re: 2000 SLE No start after replacing coils and ICM

Harofreak:

Can you elaborate on your coil pack test? I've never done this before and I don't want to eff anything up.

2000 SLE No start after replacing coils and ICM

Yeah. So the car won't start. Here's a list of what I've done on the lead-up to this condition:

1. Replaced the ICM, coils and plugs since I was getting an SES light and P0300 code. Found a bad coil. Cleared all codes.
2. Replaced the battery since the neg side post stripped when reconnecting the ...

Need Help Fuel Injection GM 3800, 2000 Bonneville SLE

Hey all.

I found out I have a vacuum leak on my intake manifold gasket the other day, so I'm going to replace it this weekend. While I'm at it, I decided to clean my injectors and pretty much everything else that is warranted at the same time. I need some parts first so I thought I'd ask "yinz all ...

Increasingly severe "drop-outs" on ignition.

Hey all:

2000 SLE w/137K miles. Driven ~ 4 mi/day.

I noticed this suddenly start to happen last week. And the problem is starting to get more severe. There are actually several parts to this problem but I think they're all connected somehow. Here's my best description of the issue:

When I go to ...

Re: Can't bleed my brakes!

ddalder :

I quite agree with you. I am an analyst by trade so I tend to sometimes over-diagnose issues. But I'm also on a budget. So I try to find out as much as possible about the problem before I leap into things. And that's possibly a double-edged sword.

I mean, paralysis-by-analysis does have ...

Re: Can't bleed my brakes!

Just to let everyone know, I bled the caliper at the banjo bolt and it gave me enough pedal to safely drive it over to my mechanic (slowly on side streets at night, but only 1.5 mi). Now, unless he "effs" something up, I'll have saved a good chunk 'O change.

So, thanks oldman . While this is ...

Can't bleed my brakes!

So put in some new lines and went to bleed the brakes (rear). RR caliper bled just fine. LR caliper bleed screw is hopelessly frozen and starting to strip. So a couple of questions:

1. A shadetree mechanic friend of mine said that I could easily bleed the caliper with the offender by first ...

Front Brake Pad Replacement Query

Hey all:

So I'm going to try doing some brake work for the first time on my 2000 Bonneville. I've looked at the online Chilton's guides from Carnegie Library, and I've watched a few YouTube videos on the subject.

Seems pretty straightforward. No special tools needed, and the parts are relatively ...

Re: Anyone have problems with Dorman Window Regulators?

Sorry for taking so long to get back to yinz, but here is how everything worked out:

I returned the mismatched regulator (w/o motor) to Amazon for a credit to my account. While I was online, I noticed that Amazon Prime Day was coming up. So, I sat back and waited, bourbon in one hand, TV remote in ...

Re: Anyone have problems with Dorman Window Regulators?

So, I called Dorman and got a tech on the line. Apparently, I'm not delusional. My particular window motor won't fit the Dorman 740-889 regulator (or any other OEM or third-party regulator [!]).

This is what the tech wrote me back in an email. If this sounds fishy to anyone, please let me know ...

Anyone have problems with Dorman Window Regulators?

My rear passenger window regulator snuffed it last week. That [expletive] plastic wire guide broke. So I went to Amazon (I'm a Prime member) and bought a Dorman 740-889 replacement regulator (no motor) that supposedly was a fit for my vehicle.

And, yeah, the regulator fit into the RP door and the ...

Re: Engine misfire, cracked ignition coil barrel

Looks like I was misinterpreting the EVAP light on my reader. A solid light does not mean a pending DTC is present. Rather, it means that the EVAP test ran and completed. So scratch that part of my post.

Also I found a few videos online regarding cleaning the IAC. I'll give it a shot after it stops ...

Re: Engine misfire, cracked ignition coil barrel

So I got the "hidden" plugs and the associated wiring replaced and all squared away. (If you've got long arms, or a friend with a pair, pulling the alternator works just fine.) Also got the cracked IC off and replaced that, too (thanks, 96 SSei!)

The DTC for the misfire on cylinder 3 went away, but ...

Re: Engine misfire, cracked ignition coil barrel

96 SSEi:

Got my plugs and new wires this afternoon (Fri). In the meantime, I picked up some of those "Security Torx" bits at Harbor Freight ($8.99 for a sturdy set of 6). MAF Sensor came off just fine. Gave it and the intake screen a good couple of spritzes of MAF cleaner and reinstalled. Couldn't ...

Re: Engine misfire, cracked ignition coil barrel

Hey 96 SSEI:

Took your suggestion and checked for arcing on my 1-4 coil last night. Nothing. I was gonna get another coil but the backside bolt (nearest the spark towers) is rotted away, so I've either gotta drill it out or something (usually it's something). And since the resistance across the ...

Engine misfire, cracked ignition coil barrel

Hey, everyone:

Thanks to all who've helped on my previous posts (issues). I have a new one.

2000 Bonneville SLE, 3800 Series V6, VIN K. I went to take her over for inspection, and not 1/2 mile from the house started feeling a misfire condition. The SES light came on blinking, went off, came on ...

Transmission wants to bolt from my undercarriage on cold day

Hey, All.

2000 Bonneville SLE, 121K miles, several small problems over the last few years, but otherwise she's a workhorse (and still pretty) so I want to save her.

I live near Pittsburgh and the weather has turned - specifically the overnight temps have gone south on us (32 degrees or less and ...

Hey 96 SSei and AJT2004:

Thanks for all of the help. I went the spacer route, since I'm gonna have to redo the A/C this spring. So far they're holding up just fine. There's no grinding or shaving.

Re: A/C Compressor Grinding

Thanks for the shout-back, 96SSEi:

Yeah, that clutch stays engaged, even after I pulled the power to the compressor (and I pulled the clutch fuse #26 under the hood as a second test, too.)

Regardless

(A) The clutch plate stays in the engaged position and rotates about once per second
(B) The ...
