I just replaced the elbows for the 3rd time in 10 months, this time with GM OEM parts. The first and second time I had used Dorman's. The upper elbow had developed a very slight bend and the lower elbow' larger gasket was begining to disintergrate, i.e. flaking.
Picked up my parts at the local ...

Re: Tracking down Code P0171
My P0171 was caused by a bad top engine vacuum harness. The vacuum lines were hard and brittle. The cracks were on the back side of the lines and were not readily visible from the front. Only after I pulled the harness off for a closer inspection, did I realize how bad the rubber lines were. I ...

Re: SES Light
Vacuum harness smoothed the idle a little but, the misfire is still there. Checked fuel pressure and it showed 42 lbs-ignition on and 47 lbs-engine idling.
Ran a more detail check with another scanner. The datastream shows the misfires are occuring on cylinders 1 and 4, same coil, so I'll inspect ...

Re: SES Light
Replaced the thermostat during lunch, though I haven't test drove to see if that eliminates the P0128.
I did notice that vacuum harness (with the 2 hard plastic lines) from the throttle body to the fuel regulator was cracked and dry rotted (larger diameter tube) at both ends. Definitely a vacuum ...

Re: SES Light
Barely warm, that's why I'm leaning towards a thermostat failure though it is only 2 months old. I'll swap it tomorrow, clear the codes and see if that corrects it.
I'm assuming that if the engine doesn't warm up to optimal temperature, the computer won't go into "closed loop", the fuel mixture is ...

SES Light
Daughter came home from classes this evening and said the SES was blinking. Pulled the codes and had a P0128-coolant thermostat (coolant temp below thermostat regulating temperature) and a P0300-random misfire detected.
Last month I had a MAF issue and did pull a P0131-O2 signal low S-1/B-1. After ...

Re: misfires
Before getting a replacement, however, follow Beast00's suggestion to see if the MAF sensor is indeed to blame. Then try cleaning it (good maintenance to do periodically even when it's working fine). Then, if it comes to it -- replace. It amazes me how many engine gremlins go away on Bonnevilles ...

May have to try that, unfortunately the local salvage yard is mostly trucks and 4x4's. The next closest one is 35 miles away.
Did reclean the MAF with MAF cleaner, shines like a newly minted dime. Cleared the code. During the test drive (15 miles), it runs great the first 5-7 miles, then you feel ...

Troubleshooting
Issues with a 2001 Bonneville SE with 129k miles. I bought the car in April and since owning it I replaced a faulty fuel sensor, oil pressure sensor, several burnt out bulbs, and upgraded the stereo with another OEM from harofreak.
Up to this point, the car ran without any issues. This past week ...

harofreak has replacement OEM stereos if you want to stay factory. I got a cassette/cd unit from him, all lights worked, fast shipping.
Check with various GM dealers for programing the replacement unit. A Buick/Chevy dealer did mine for $30, made an appointment and was out of there in 15 minutes.

Re: Fuel gauge question
The fuel gauge issue you're describing is common, but a fairly simple and cheap fix if you're mechanically inclined. I had the same issue with mine. When you have time, browse the various forums, lots of good info in them.

2 possibilities. In my previous post, I mentioned a black plastic connector with a small diameter plastic pin and a black plastic tape that is under the PRND321 cover.

I replaced mine last Friday night, (2001 SE). There is only 1 bulb - GE37. O'Reilley Auto Parts had a Wagoner37 - same bulb, different manufacturer. The GE37 bulb is a push in/pull out type of bulb.

Re: FUEL LEVEL SENSOR
The most important part in the disassembly process is supporting the sender unit while attempting to knock out the brass pin. Instead of using 2 socket as shown in the video, I used my vise. I opened the vise jaws just enough to support the sender unit and using a nail punch and hammer, I tapped the ...

The part number is: 15824379. Local GM dealer said it was special order so I ordered on-line from:

The part was $28.15 plus $9.95 UPS ground shipping ($38.10). It probably would have been quicker through the local dealer, but since he has a monopoly on all the ...
