Re: Looking for "new" Bonneville
I don't know all the science behind it, but it's a huge difference here. I know the air is less dense, so you get less oxygen in whatever air the supercharger is stuffing in. Even with 1.9 rockers, 3.3" pulley, custom tune, headers, etc. I couldn't break the tires loose from a stop.. At sea level it ...

Re: oil filter
I never thought of filling the filter. Just running it a minute and topping it off should cover that.
It's not filling the oil to capacity that's the reason for this. If you spin on the filter dry (no oil in it), when you first start the engine, it's going to take "x" number of seconds for the ...

Looking for "new" Bonneville
Hey folks, the Bonneville bug never let go after I sold my last one, and I'm looking for another. I'll be buying at tax time, end of Jan / beginning of Feb most likely.
This time I'm widening my options. After seeing so many at junkyards, I'm partial to the late 90's style, mostly because of their ...

Re: Sad day
As an adjunct to my last post-- Do you have access to an Android phone with the torque app? If you have an Android phone (or know someone who does), a $15 Bluetooth adapter and $7 torque app will let you monitor fuel trims. That will tell you real quick what is setting that lean code. Fuel delivery ...

Re: Sad day
I continually get the low coolant temp and lean condition codes, but I've been getting those ever since the build project over a year ago...given the 180 t-stat, P-log,1:7 rockers and 2.5 DP w/hi-flow cat.
Where does your temp gauge usually rest at when warmed up? I had a 180* thermostat for a ...

Goodbye Bonneville
I traded in my Bonneville a couple weeks ago as most of you know. I hate seeing cars go, I get attached to them especially with the amount of work I've put into the Bonneville. I didn't have it long (bought in Jan 2010) but in that time I went from 105k, and traded it in with 170k. Not a bad run ...

Re: Trade-in Value
No doubt I could have gotten more selling it privately, but it takes some time around here, plus in this area a/c is more or less essential if you want to sell something, I certainly wouldn't get a good price without it because people assume the worst with a.c. repairs. That's a big hassle not on my ...

Re: Trade-in Value
The mods don't have a value, in fact in my experience, if overdone will detract from the value. In any event I didn't call attention to anything under the hood, but whoever buys it will have a pleasant surprise when they jump on the go pedal. I'm fairly confident the car will need a transmission in ...

What do you guys think is a fair trade-in value for an '00 SSEi w/ 170k?

Don't have to check for frame damage? What's the point of a safety inspection then?

Re: Engine taking long time to start
Nope, once it's been driven for awhile it wont do it. Only after it sits about 45 minutes or more.

Engine taking long time to start
I have to crank the engine a good 4-5 seconds before it'll start. Only happens after it's been sitting for awhile.
I used to be able to just flip the key to start, and the pre-programmed 1-2 seconds was enough that it would start on its own without me having to hold down the key. I've tried priming ...

Re: 2001 SLE (PROJECT REBUILD)
I don't think you're going to win anybody over in this crowd, but if I needed a car bad enough and found something similar dirt cheap that I could half-ass put back together, I'd take the risk. Sure it'll crumple up like a soda can if you ever hit anything on that side, but at least it's not on the ...

Re: Rear shock leaking?
Found the Monroe's and mounts at O'Reilly, buit when I opened the shock mounts, despite them being in identical "Masterpro" (or whatever their house brand is) boxes, they were two different mounts. They were for the same vehicle but clearly from two different OEM's. The guy looked at me like I was ...

Re: End of an Era
I'm kinda "meh" on the Hyundai's looks, but that engine is first rate. 274hp / 269 lb-ft torque (at 1700rpm nonetheless) out of a 2.0L four is insane, wonder what kind of boost pressure they are running to achieve that.

Rear shock leaking?
Noticed a puddle of fluid under my driver's side back tire while leaving the garage this morning. Just did the rear brakes about a week ago, so I panicked for a moment thinking it was brake fluid, but upon further inspection it appears the shock is leaking fluid.

Re: Lean condition caused by exhaust leak?????
I know you are focused on the exhaust leak as a possibility, and it may very well be your cause, but I have to go back to fuel pressure. You may have done this already but have you checked the FPR? How about, while checking the fuel pressure, removing the vacuum line that is conencted to the FPR ...

Re: Lean condition caused by exhaust leak?????
If the exhaust leak is before the O2 sensor or in the immediate vicinity, absolutely. If it's downstream of the O2 sensor, it won't affect anything.

Re: Lean condition caused by exhaust leak?????
The suggestion not to ignore the code is the best advise given here, IMO. Running lean under boost will quickly destroy an engine. The PCM will compensate for the lean condition by increasing injector pulse width to maintain a complete burn, but it can only do so much.

Re: Semi-synthetic oil
I'd change it when the OLM tells you to. With mostly highway driving, mine tells me to change about every 8k, which has been fine so far on regular dino oil, usually the cheapest bargain oil I can find. I have had all analyses show "wear metal" (I take these oil analyses with a grain of salt) way ...
