Re: heater climate control display just went black

Geez, this sounds like it's electro-complicated. One of the challenges I had with my bonnie (sold now) were the Driver Instrument Clusters in the Dashboard. Sometimes they were on, sometimes off. I would up discovering after several dash removals and troubleshooting and wire playing that I could ...

Re: Never ending battle

One must consider that once a car has 200k, anything can and will happen. Could be a very nice car and once brought up to spec can even be pretty reliable but older cars need TLC, no two ways about that.

Re: Driver information center doesn't work properly

I had the same issues in my 97. Was never able to fully resolve it after 5 times removing the dashboard and instrument cluster to clean and manage the pins. If you're ready to try that I have the process documented somewhere on this forum, in detail with photos and things I had to learn the hard way ...

Re: New guy, new project!

Love those riv's, OK, pretty much love all Riv's but that year with the swooping front and tight boat-tail rear is particularly sharp. Have fun. Larger rims and tires might "Fill the wells" better but that may be a matter of angle of the photos. Can we see her interior, dash and instruments? I ...

Looks so nice I thought maybe that was the 2017 model.
Wishful thinking I suppose.

Re: Loving my new Bonneville

Welcome BCB, you found a great forum, lots of helpful folks. I'm now on my way out as I just sold an SSEi. I'll miss it but no time for second car maintenance at the moment. Enjoy your new Bonnie!

Re: Punctured Fuel Line under hood

Thanks for the temp workaround, I didn't need to drive it because I had another car available to go get the part. Thank you though and yes, poverty does make a person do things they'd rather not.

I think I messed this one up. A combination of awkward access and trying to get things done too quickly ...

Re: Punctured Fuel Line under hood

I believe smaller of the two. I just know I never return the unused parts so if I can avoid buying both, I'll save a couple $. (Seeing them between $6 ~ 12 each) and I'm guessing a fresh bladed matte knife or Xacto is the preferred tool for this. I'll come back with the results! - thanks folks.

Punctured Fuel Line under hood

I think I "might" have found out where the fuel odor was emanating from. I was poking around last week and saw that gasoline was "streaming" (YIKES!!) from this fuel line that (for some reason?) disappears below the hood fuse case. Anyone know the part I need to look for? I'm thinking it "should be ...

Re: Pulley is making a squeaking noise.

Finally took it to the Mechanical man who indicated it's pulley #3 (from diagram above) which is being replaced today. Noted it's supposed to snap back and is "stuck" which causes wear on the belt, which then causes the noise. Hopefully this puts a permanent stop to the noise.

Re: Pulley is making a squeaking noise.

Thanks J W,

So just to confirm you're more suspicious of pulley #9 (smooth idler pulley - photo above?) or the other belt. I'm starting to guess this is beyond "hands on" for me currently (no shop or engine lift - limited under-hood experience.)

I've already changed the belt which may have also been making the noise in the summer. I think this sound appears only when it's cold outside (and goes away once engine warms up) https://youtu ...

Re: Warning chime is driving me nuts!

My Chime stopped when I repaired a brake line. The braking system was losing pressure and there was "supposed to be" a warning light on the dashboard but that failed to illuminate. So in my case the annoying ringing did represent something to repair that could have had severe consequences ...

Re: Ringing Alert Sound - Flashing DIC & Compass 1997 SSEi

Those bolts (FYI) are 2 of 4 of the 10mm bolts, two others on bottom of valance panel AND a more hidden threaded fastener also involved. (use the phillips #2 for that one) then the two (13mm) bolts for loosening the steering column are behind that facing straight up.

Thanks SataDrive420. So those two bolts to the left and right of the steering column won't help?
And btw - yesterday's drive to work (45 minutes) darkened once just after starting but stayed illuminated the whole drive following. Think I'm on the right track now (finally!!)

Re: Ringing Alert Sound - Flashing DIC & Compass 1997 SSEi

Now I'm stuck on the light switch itself. I can get every other obstruction clean except the light switch. I don't want to tug too hard and break it but suspect it's just a matter of giving the plastic knobs a good clean tug so I can remove the upper plastic cover. I don't want to snap it and learn ...

heh, 7 years later and somehow this appeared. For the record the indicator still fits loose but I haven't done anything to remedy it. More serious issues right now than that. I'll try to look at that round plastic part close to the lid to see how to lift it, see what there is to secure it and pull ...
