I assume taking the front cover off involves removing the damper, right?
If I take all the lifters apart to clean them, what should I look for to determine if one is good or bad? If I have a bad one, what user name does "Andrew" go under in case I need to message him?
If I need to replace the rod ...

Re: Top end knocking: Balance shaft bearings or bad lifter(s
Looks like I can get a set of lifters and upper/lower radiator hoses from RockAuto for about $160 shipped. I don't really want to pay for new lifters if they aren't my problem though. Should I take them all apart and clean them, then put the car back together and see what happens?

Re: Top end knocking: Balance shaft bearings or bad lifter(s
Here is a link to a video that I found that describes my exact symptoms. It was from an resolved thread on another forum where one person suggested it was bad bearings but another said it was just normal timing chain slop.

Top end knocking: Balance shaft bearings or bad lifter(s)?
Hi all, long time no post. I've been immersed in the world of Pontiac Fieros for the last 2-3 years. Anyway, I traded an extra Fiero for a 98 Grand Prix GT, NA motor. It has about 172k miles on it and I just replaced the upper and lower intake gaskets when it started making a rattling sound.
I've ...

Re: Squeaky Power Steering Pump :(
Ok, thats what I was thinking it was... that nifty hole in the pulley isn't there for nothing :P
I'll be doing the pump on the Bonneville first *after* I get the motor pulled out so that will make that car much easier to do. I'll do the LeSabre at my leisure then as long as the squeaking doesn't ...

Re: Insurance
Just liability for me, but then again I've never owned a car newer than 15 years at any given time. However, if I had a new car then I'd go full coverage until the car's value has decreased the point of the insurance costing more than the car is worth.

Have a harbor freight local? They have cheap fuel pressure testers though I'm not sure how accurate they are. Theres really not much we can do without eliminating a few things first.

Re: Squeaky Power Steering Pump :(
There are access holes in the pulley to get at the bolts. Normally, one would have to pull the pulley off and press it onto the new pump but since I'm just replacing it with another used pump it already has the pulley on it. I've just never pulled one off all the way before (other than just off the ...

Squeaky Power Steering Pump :(
So yesterday I start pulling out of my driveway when I noticed my power steering feeling wonky and the pump making a terrible noise. I check the fluid and it was foamy, yellow, and super low. I must have a small leak and the empty space must have gotten filled with condensation (was raining all day ...

Re: Project B Type: LeSabre w/ Bonneville front end
The '90 is kinda odd... it technically belongs to my sister in law who was going to give it me last summer since I did all the work on it and put a lot of my spare parts on it. Instead, it went to her grandparents after their car died but they aren't going to be driving much longer so I'll be ...

Re: Project B Type: LeSabre w/ Bonneville front end
It looks Ok... I think its solid as I was poking around it yesterday when I pulled the bumper. I haven't really examined it though... You want it, I assume? Its a dual-out. I can lop it off with my Sawzall and leave a few inches of pipe to weld it to something. It actually needs to be out of the way ...

200,664 :) ...I actually figured it might be the car...I'm just not sure I can get away with spending that kind of money right now. I hope that frees it up some...it's a hog.
Do you have emissions? If not, just weld in a pipe for the cat.

Re: Project B Type: LeSabre w/ Bonneville front end
The Bonneville in the middle is actually the '88 LeSabre with the Bonnie nose on it :P
Ok, heres how it works:
The blue '89 Bonneville is the parts car (foregound). Its nose, rear, dash, and drive train are going in the '88 LeSabre. It was deemed dead by my friends after the fuel pump was dead ...

Re: Project B Type: LeSabre w/ Bonneville front end
Ok, more work.
First I yanked off the bumper to reveal the substructure. I still don't know how I'm going to cut it but I wont decide till I get the bumper off the '88 so I can properly compare the structures first.

Re: My '88 Bonneville SSE
The motor was swapped out with a '90 (I think) before he got the car
The rest of the trim still says its an '88 though.

Re: Project B Type: LeSabre w/ Bonneville front end
I can get pics of both the rears tomorrow. I dont think I'll be cutting tomorrow but I will be taking a sharpie and a measuring tape to start planning. I know that I'm going to have to modify the trunk lid of the LeSabre with the lower section of the Bonneville since they're different but otherwise ...

Re: Project B Type: LeSabre w/ Bonneville front end
FINALLY! An update! There has finally been some nice weather so I was at the Bonneville again today.
First up was pulling the seat. The front seats are going to be junked and the rears *might* get put into the LeSabre.

Re: Bonny SSE to Olds Bodykit
Come to think of it, the rears may be the same but its the fronts that are probably different. I know they are between a LeSabre and a Bonneville due to the angle of the Bonneville bumper being more exaggerated. I think the Olds absorbers are fairly perpendicular to the shaft of the absorber too ...
