Nice work.
Honestly , after seeing the condition of “restored” old school cars at local cars and coffees I value the ones with some real world marks and wear to them. The showpiece 67’ Mustangs have their place , but the vintage 66’ Mercury Courgar with some bumper marks and clean paint is a much ...

Re: Advice on a 00' SSEI
I think it’s a solid option. Depending on how bad the gas cap rust is you may be able to sand down the paint and treat/repaint if it’s not too far gone. You could be looking at a water leak issue , but again that’s pretty much par for the course with these cars and the age of em.

Re: 97 LeSabre Project
Its not my wish to be Negative Nellie here- but if the frame is that rotted I have to question the integrity of the metal brake & fuel lines too. Also, what causes rust isn’t the car- it’s the climate and local road salting. If your moms not planning to move anytime soon all that rust is gonna come ...

Thanks for the support guys!
Today I “rebadged” by deleting the stock SLE door badges and swapping with Pontiac insignia for the fenders.

I get compliments occasionally, most on how comfortable the thing is. But some people are really snarky, and when I'm showing them apartments downtown whose monthly rent is worth more than the car... They tend to look at me weird. But who cares!

Re: Penny the 2003 SLE
You're not wrong! Penny has been hit all over multiple times. Can't do much about it in populated zones. I don't think there's a single clean panel on this car.... Lol

Re: Penny the 2003 SLE
The struggle is real, especially once you get attached to a car.
I've been thinking about Penny replacements in the back of my mind, but it is financially stupid to replace a perfectly working car. I'd love to replace her with a G8 GXP MT, or Chevy SS. Since I have people in the car all the time ...

Re: Not Regretting This Decision
Yeah, I was very well aware of the issues with these engines (been hanging around this board long enough), and bought it knowing that. For now, it drives great and doesn't have any engine or trans problems. When it happens, it happens. It'll be a lot of work, but not impossible. And that's the plan ...

Re: Giving in on the head gaskets
Perhaps you can have your cake and eat it too.
Honestly refurbishing a Northstar goes beyond just the head studs. There's the half case gasket to consider as well ; by the time you tear down the motor to fix that you may as well strip it down to the crankshaft and start totally fresh. As in ...

Re: Cold air intake choices.
Made my own with tubing from Autozone. Note that the only filter option which increases power is a fenderwell CAI. A WAI (filter mounted in hood ) reduces the car's output under high heat conditions.
