the actron you mentioned will help diagnose a non-start issue with no CEL?

this surging/stalling/no-start, etc issues are taking all of my time. what scanner or laptop software can i buy for this car?

not so concerned with cost, i just need to get this car running. scanner needs record failed starts and point me toward a solution...

Security lamp stays on solid with key in on position. Car actually started and security light stayed on.

So puzzled

so if the security light is flashingwhen thekey is 'on' or crankingi may have a vats issue?

what is the normal behavior of the vats/ security lamp?

completely stumped...

no start at all now. with the key on each injector has power at one of the terminals on the harness, but will not flash a 194 bulb when cranking.

i have tried with the TPS disconnected, same result.

i checked the ground for the PCM, i replaced the PCM, i checked the grounds ...

i am 100% sure the injectors are not firing. fuel pressure is adequate, spark is there...

i tried starting w/o TPS and no dice. i keep coming back to this white wire which is terminal A on the 8 pin. i'll toss a TPS in tonight just to see.

Hi Mike. I have 12 on the pink, H on the 8 pin connector.

Ignition control out from ICM is a white wire. This also seems to tie into the 8 pin connector, ICM and PCM. I can install a new TPS but I feel like I am just throwing parts at it now. I did test the TPS too.

It appears only PCM and TPS ...

from what i understand, the injector harness is powered by a wire which comes through a 8 pin connector. the injector harness 8 pin connector sends power through pin A

that wire connects to the engine harness and goes back to the firewall connector at pin C4 i believe. [this is coming from memory ...

Hi Mike. No it would not start with maf disconnected. No injector pluse either. After I install these power steering hoses on my fathers truck I'll install the cps.

was not related to the icm i guess. i have and always had fuel pressure. what does the crank position sensor control? injector pulse or ignition? i have had spark the entire time... i have one of those cheap GM injector tools, i need to find it...

will it have a code stored sans check engine light?

i took the advise of some other posts and pulled the ICM and cleaned the ICM/bracket interface and bracket/head along with all the connections. unsure if will prove to be better or the same. will perform a cold start test tomorrow morning...

feel a bit better today, used a IR thermometer while running the engine and letting the fans cycle. despite a 220* reading on the dash, i was hard pressed to find anything over 202* on the engine [save for the headers of course].

can you recommend a decent programmer for this car...

i was interested in having the cooling fans come on at a slightly lower temp. asked if i could install a lower temp coolant temp sensor, etc.

a coolant system pressure tester is cheap insurance against such a problem. i paid $80 for mine; prior to the purchase i always thought they were silly. use it all the time now.

made some progress. just need to neaten up the engine compartment [wires, etc.]. runs smooth, pulls nice. a project almost complete.
