Re: looking for a first car

Your best bet is to make a list of cars, see what you find the most desirable and then visit the corresponding message boards and start reading about trouble spots, ease of repairs, etc...

I agree totally with this, especially since you have options (I got a hand-me-down). I'm a new driver too ...

*insert Homer Simpson "WOO-HO!" here*

The Bonneville just broke 100,000 miles! I find it amazing that this car only had about 76,000 when I got it. I got my license in May and it has been my daily driver since. Looking forward to many more miles.

Traction Control Button

My traction control button has fallen out of its socket into the center console. I can lift up the console top, and see that the whole assembly, still connected to the wire is just sitting down there next to the shifter mechanism. I also notice there's some sort of screw hole on the side of the ...

Re: Minivan trouble

Thanks for the input. Sorry I should have been more specific about the gas cap thing. We have had the code read, and it is the gas cap. The DIC also says "CHECK GAS CAP". I guess we've never really gotten around to replacing it. We also did open the brake fluid reservoir, and it was full (almost to ...

Minivan trouble

I don't know how much expertise anyone would have on the last-Gen GM minivans, but being GM, it probably doesn't change across the line. We have a 2006 Chevy Uplander with a BRAKE red warning light.

Some background: It's a daily driver with (I'm pretty sure) over 150,000 mi on it. The check engine ...

Re: Anyone tow with their bonneville?

Yup.
The manual:
How heavy can a trailer safely be?
It should never weigh more than 1,000 lbs. (450 kg) .
But even that can be too heavy.
It depends on how you plan to use your rig.
For example, speed, altitude, road grades, outside
temperature and how much your vehicle is used to pull a
trailer ...

Re: What did you do to your car today?

Over the warm weekend we had 2 weekends ago, I opened the trunk to look at the service parts label (was going to order touch up paint), and discovered that the carpet was very wet. There was about 2" of water in the spare tire well. I took everything out and dried it, then pulled the plugs out of ...

Recall Applicable?

Quick question (might have been asked before, sorry if it has). I have had a "recall notice" from the (former Pontiac) Buick/GMC dealer where my 2000 SLE was bought sitting on my desk for a while (10 months-ish). The only open recall on it, checking the safercar.gov website reveals it is for the ...

Ok. Sorry I'm stumped. The manual is usually the extent of my knowledge. :dontknow: The gearheads or moderators will see this soon though, and they're good about figuring our new guys' problems.

Re: New Owner with a problem

relay #33 HVAC SOL.
I stole a relay from the high beams and it didn't change anything.

Don't quote me on this, but judging from pg. 6-65 in the manual: http://www.pontiac.com/content/dam/pontiac/northamerica/usa/nscwebsite/en/Home/Owners/Owner_Resources/Manuals/en/us/2001/bonneville/2001 ...

Re: New Kid

Ok I have the time today to sit down and do this right. I figured out how to link small thumbnails from Photobucket into my signature. However, I would like to have bigger ones to post so you guys can see. When I put pictures in (not using the thumbnail code) they are too large for the 700x200 limit ...

No Brakes?

This is the most important repair that needs to be done to make my car driveable. My dad and I were planning on replacing the rotors and pads on the rear brakes (we had a mechanic look at it when my grandpa gave it to me, that was his verdict, and it was something we could do ourselves). However ...

New Kid

Hello Everyone! I have a 2000 SLE, brown on the outside, brown on the inside (I'm classy like that). It's completely stock, owned for all of its 70,000ish mile life by my grandpa, who always took it to the dealership (I've even got the original paperwork on how he optioned it from the factory). This ...
