Goodbye Old Friend - Bonneville SE 40th Anniversary Edition
Had a deer jump out in front of me about a month ago and total her out. After taking care of the common failure points and taking care of all the maintenance items when I first bought it I can honestly say it was the most reliable car I've ever owned. Bought it with 83K on it and piled on another ...

Re: Brake Line Repair Idea
Finally got around to fixing it yesterday. Fortunately it was the one from the ABS pump to the LF wheel so it was the easiest of all of them. Made a new line out of cu-ni and called it a day. It was so painfully cold with the wind that I left the rest alone. If we get a warm spell soon I'll go out ...

Re: Air Lift 1000 Install How-To
Great write up. I'm torn between these and a decent set of air shocks for the back. I carpool and at least once a week I've got 4 guys besides myself in the car and the back ends up riding really low.

Brake Line Repair Idea
I had one of the brake lines on the driver's side frame rail by the trans let go yesterday. Anyone ever replace one of the hard lines with a pair of inverted flare to 3AN fittings and a piece of pre-made 3AN braided brake hose? I'd like to replace all of them with copper-nickel line in the spring, I ...

Re: the all too common intake gasket failure!
I put little to no faith in electronic oil pressure gauges. If you want a truly accurate reading you need a good quality mechanical gauge or a very pricey 270* sweep aftermarket.

Re: Advice for new owner on potential issues and maintenance
I can't remember if you can see the lower gaskets with the intake on but if you can you're looking for an aluminum gasket frame. Here's the write up I followed doing mine:

Re: Advice for new owner on potential issues and maintenance
Got a 97 with 80k miles a couple of months ago. Did Dorman upper intake, lower gaskets, air filter, fuel filter, PCV valve, trans service, coolant flush, 180* thermostat, platinum Denso plugs, and AC Delco wires. Car should be good except for oil changes and a trans service or two for another 60k ...

First step would be checking voltage at motor in both directions.

Re: Falling oil pressure
If mechanical gauge confirms low pressure I'd ask how are the lower intake gaskets? Send a sample of oil out to be analyzed by a lab. Small amounts of coolant might not be visible in the oil but may be enough to wear out the bearings. I also seem to remember it to be not uncommon for a 3.8 to need a ...

Re: What did you do to your car today?
The thunderstorms final settled down last might and it cooled off so I took the opportunity to fix the RR power window and RR holy sh1t handle light.
I figured I was going to have to at least take the power window motor apart but after getting it off the regulator assembly I found it was working ...

Re: Coolant leak where upper hose meets engine block
The pliers for removing and installing the factory style "spring" clamps are fairly cheap and worth the investment.

Re: What did you do to your car today?
Busted my arse on it yesterday. Replaced LIM gaskets, replaced UIM, new plugs, new wires, and new rear valve cover gasket. Still need to do the front one, the fuel filter, alternator bearings, and change the oil but after 7 hours in the hot carport turning wrenches and leaning over a fender I was ...

Anybody Towing?
Manual says only 1500lbs. Anyone towing anything bigger? My wife's Venture minivan with 25 less hp and a 3.4 is rated 3500.

Re: What did you do to your car today?
HID kits finally showed up yesterday. Disconnected the DRL resistor a while ago so that was already done. Jumped out the daylight sensor to disable the automatic headlights, and installed the HID's in the low beams and fogs. Need to pick up a diode still to keep the lows from turning off when the ...

Re: What did you do to your car today?
Saturday it got coolant drained and filled, 180* thermostat, new sway bar end links, trans service, air filter, tire rotation, and a bath. Still have the new fuel filter, PCV valve, LIM gaskets, Dorman UIM, and VC gaskets in the box waiting to go in. Just not enough hours in the day. Oh, and gave ...

New Owner - Orange County, NY
I just picked up a 97 Bonneville SE 40th Anniverary Edition last week. I needed a new commuter car and with only 80K miles on it the price was right. One family, 2 owner car. Not planning a lot as far as mods just swapping the Sony head unit and Sirius in from my last commuter and a set of HID's ...

Forcing Low Beams On With High?
Seems like this is a popular modification on the GM trucks but my search here didn't get me anything specific. I know it can be done with a relay under the hood and I know how to do it that way. I've read several mentions of using a diode under the dash to allow the high beam signal wire to back ...
