problem solved. found a few loose wires and bad connections under the fuse box in the engine compartment. It looks like somebody nicked some wires working near the fuse box in a previous life.

bad news. the new used multi function switch did not fix my problem. Have the same problem with the new switch installed. figured it out. not sure what I did but I took it apart cleaned it with some compressed air duster put some CRC Brand QD Electrical Cleaner on it, waited for it to dry and put it back together and its working now. so i got that going for me. THANKS Andrew .
