Re: Did I kill my ecm?

Thanks for the help. I think I would have done the test if I didn't hear that noise behind the pulley.

Re: Did I kill my ecm?

Another update. It appears that the crank sensor or harmonic balancer are having issues. I noticed a frayed wire going to the sensor which I repaired. It didn't fix the problem, but I did notice that when the car is running there is noise coming from behind the crank pulley. This is good to know ...

Re: Did I kill my ecm?

Update: Once again I started the car and it ran fine for about 10 seconds then severe backfiring and the engine barely ran. Could a bad ecm work temporarily, could a crank sensor work temporarily?

I worry that if I perform the test it might show the crank sensor as being good when it isn't.

Re: Did I kill my ecm?

Thank you very much. The car does kind of run, it's running like an old car with the distributor on backwards. Except that one day it ran well for a few minutes and then I shut it off. I thought the ignition control module was suspect because they can heat up and send spark to the wrong cylinder ...

Did I kill my ecm?

So all was going well with the ol' 1991 bonnie until I had an A/C fuse blow.. I found some frayed wire going to the high pressure switch, repaired it. But then all I had was a 30amp fuse instead of a 25.

Test drive time..all is well! Cool air, runs great, then it starts stuttering and got worse ...

Why do you have to find an engine? I got the bracket and everything off of ebay.

Experiences Daily Driving a 91LE 40 thousand miles

I figured this might make an interesting post, as I doubt it's a common occurrence for someone to put a 26 year old Bonneville through the paces. When considering these cars, words like bulletproof are thrown around, as the engine does deserve recognition. The thing is, everything else is important ...

The rare and elusive 30MPG **To me anyways**

I've heard of 3800 powered H bodies getting 30MPGs more times than I care to recount. From different people driving different cars.

I've only recorded my economy since I've gotten my 91 Bonne, I've driven it over a year and over 15 thousand miles. The best I've achieved was 25 on a road trip ...

Part of this makes me sad, but I've come to the realization that no matter what idiots will get a hold of classic collectible cars and destroy them, Demolition derbys, crap like this etc. :(

GM's thought process behind the first gen H body Bonnevilles

I found these pics of what the Pontiac designers had in mind for the H body Bonneville debut.

Their first concept:

Then the bosses said make it lamer.

Thanks, I think my next mod would be to shave the antenna. It looks like a giant remote controlled car with it.

It was also my first time tinting and debadging a car but I think it came out well due to my use of professional grade film and having all of the proper tools and watching a bunch of Youtube videos. I will have pics of the rear up ...

Man that is cool! Honestly I'm a bigger fan of the Buicks and Oldsmobiles than the Pontiacs. I just never have come across a good deal on the Buicks or Olds.

I'll take a shot in the dark, and suggest to check your harmonic balancer for rubber separation. Keep us posted!!!

Re: I finally scored a taillight

Thanks everyone! Ya, the pics were taken in Alvin where I work. In the year that I've been there that was the only time the Metro Van parked there, they are always in another lane. I work the 2nd shift, so no one was getting in or out of the Metro Van, while the Bonneville was parked there. :)

Re: I finally scored a taillight

I think you're right, a quick look at the rpo codes shows F41, and maybe some other strange stuff but no keyless entry.
