Re: Lower Intake Gaskets - Again!

|Isn't the Toyota coolant the same as the dex? A different color though? Never see too many problems with Toyota gaskets or engines and they use the same stuff?

Had to replace the plastic gaskets on my brother's olds 3300 and it always had green.

I have a few corroded passages on my old 3800 that ...

Random alternator not charging issue.

When I go to start it, very randomly, the light is on and my guage shows not charging. I can shut the car off and restart a time or two, and it will start charging.

Alternator is new. Had the same problem before. I had to replace the alternator because with that many miles, the bearings were ...

Re: I'm considering a magnaflow for the Buick. Sound levels

You have a point. I just have this magnaflow for free I'm willing to use though. :D

Its called the wide open model. It is similar to what you find on the mufflers on their website. Its all stainless and has the mesh layers in it.

2.5 is what this exhaust is on this car. Except for the back ...

Re: I'm considering a magnaflow for the Buick. Sound levels

My exhaust is still stock after 450,000 kms, and it never had a resonator on it. I had a 94 in my yard and it had a resonator. I kept it and I still have it, lol.

Again, I love my series one. It has a different feel from a newer 3800. I do realize the series two is more powerful, but I am quite ...

I'm considering a magnaflow for the Buick. Sound levels?

First off, I DO NOT WANT MORE HP! I just want a nice low rumble sound that does NOT intrude into the cabin unless you romp the engine up, like 2000 plus rpms. This series one cranks out enough power for me.

The aftermarket muffer I put on 2 years ago sounds awful. Always has that drone under light ...

Security light on

My 93 Park ave. The security light is illuminated and does not turn off. It does not affect the driveability of the car at all. The remote key fob works well too.

Any ideas on how to diagnose this?

BTW, since my trans stays in third gear with no TCC, I rigged a switch under the dash that I turn ...

Re: fe3 suspension on lesabre.

i say do what i did with my park ave and go with a fe2 suspension. Cargo coils for the back, new struts, new coils for the front. The biggest change is in your sway bars. I upgraded my front one to a 32, and the back to a 26, the biggest you can get I believe. Use heavy duty polyurethane bushings in ...

Re: new egr valve but tranny still wont stay in 4th gear.

Looking on Identifix, someone stated that 4th gear is inhibited if the TCC does not work. Makes sense as to the way the car has been acting. Makes no sense as to why some engineering brainiac would design a car to waste gas when a simple solonoid goes bad!? At 100, the car is fine at 2000 rpms, but ...

The RKE module? I thought it might have something to do with with that. Too bad I didn't remove the one I could have had in a parts car the wife bought me. :)

Horn honks when shiftng from park, and trunk randomly opens.

Its not always doing it, but ever since I've owned the car, randomly, the horn gives off a short toot when shifting to park. Another funny thing is the trunk will open when shifting from park. But the horn doesn't toot when the trunk opens. Both events are very random, and happen for short periods a ...

Wouldn't it be the same price to get it at a local parts store so you can see what you get, and if any warranty issues arise, no return issues?

Re: Drum Brakes Change On This Gen. Bonneville Difficult?

Id prefer old school drums as opposed to hat style rear discs where the ebrake shoes are in the rotors. Those are horrible in our climate. Another design uses the caliper as the park brake, but those seem to wear the pads faster, stick easily, and caliper replacement is horrible expensive .

When ...

Re: new egr valve but tranny still wont stay in 4th gear.

A good idea.

Heres a funny thing, when I am cruising at 100 kph, the tranny in third, my rpms are at roughly 2800. If I let off the gas to coast down a hill, the tach dips to 1000 rpms and jumps back up immediatly. Wierd...

new egr valve but tranny still wont stay in 4th gear.

So i replaced the egr valve however, my transmission will not stay in 4th gear. Anytime you turn the car off and restart, it will go into 4th no problem, but after 5 to 10 mins it comes out of 4th and my live data shows 4th gear as being commanded off.

What gives? Very annoying to waste my gas like ...

Re: ok to use synthetic tranny fluid in a 4t60-e?

Im pretty sure the transmission is good. Its already the second one for this car. No slippage and shifts the very best. The fluid is red, but looks a bit old and darkish. Last one went bad at 400, 000 kms and that was because trans fluid and antifreeze don't mix. :eek2:

I am getting ready to ...

Re: 89 Bonnville Starter Shim

I have, and its very common for most gm cars. The block is never machined that well. My sunfire has one shim from factory and the 2 others that I have take 2 shims. If replacing a starter listen to it. If it slips, you need to remove a shim, if it drags after starting (more common) you need to add a ...

Are you quite sure something didn't sieze up in your accessory belt area? I've seen alternators do this, burning up the belt causing what you describe.

I did find it overfull by a liter, so I took your suggestion. It didnt work yet. I have been able to get on the road with a scantool. Shows that tcc is on, but there isnt any!
