Year and Trim: 2001 SSEi
Any help is greatly appreciated!! I'm new to the Forum. I have recently purchased a 2001 SSEI for my daughter to drive back and forth to school. About a month ago the car stated to shut off while driving or while sitting at a stop light. I took it to a mechanic and it was giving misfire codes and he recommended to replace the crank sensor, so we did and still have the same problem. Then it was recommended to install a new ICM and coils (so a new GM ICM and Delphi coils were installed). Still have the same problem. I have checked the battery cables and they look good. The fuel pressure has been checked at idle and was 48 PSI. Now the service stablitrak light is on and it shows a code for an ECM circuit, the EGR has also been replaced last week with a Delphi. The car came from AZ and has zero rust. Does anyone have any ideas?
New Parts installed since purchase last December.
Rack and Pinnion
Coils
ICM
Crank sensor
Harmonic Balancer
Supercharger rebuild
2 new pulleys with 2 new belts
Trans Mount
1 Engine mount
EGR
Thanks, Jim.

A faulty and/or low quality replacement MAF sensor can cause problems. Disconnect and see if there's any improvement.

I had the same problem...

Car would just shut off/die while driving it - no matter how fast I was going - but would start right back up and run.
The AC/heater control panel would not light up.
The anti-lock brakes would be disengaged and not work.
My fog lights would not light up.
A whole bunch of crazy stuff.

It was the ignition switch.

Had a new ignition switch put in and everything has been working perfectly ever since.

Thank you. I am now having trouble with the ABS code C1214 (System relay contacts or coil circuit open) and C1248 (EBCM turned the red warning indicator on). Could a bad ignition switch cause this?

No, C1214 is a bad EBCM and a C1248 is a tag-along code.

Ignition switch was not the problem, the car is still shutting off while driving. I'm dropping it off at friends shop tonight and told him he can keep it until Sunday. We'll see what he can find.....
On a different note my ABS module died, so I sent it to Texas Speedometer to have it repaired. EXCELLENT service, I sent it next day air delivery by 10:30 on a Monday, so they would have it Tuesday morning. I can home from work on Thursday and it was on my doorstep repaired with a lifetime warranty. The cost was around $97 for the repair, plus whatever shipping you choose to send it to them. The return shipping is included in the $97.

my guess is a short to ground in the 5v ref circuit somewhere (5v ref circuit is the central nervous system of a vehicle) from a wire rubbing through and touching metal (ground)...if you friend has a scantool like a snapon verus etc with a oscilloscope (scope) function, he should monitor all the sensors on the 5v Ref and see which one wigs out right before/as it dies either all sensors at once if he can or one/two at a time....then start looking for visual signs of wire/loom damage on the one(s) that wigged out first.
