Ok, I don't mean to sound dumb but, I installed Power Slot rotors on all 4 corners of my 2004 SE about 2 months ago. I followed the directions to the T, I installed them in the direction that the arrow labels were pointing. When everything was done, the slots on the rotors were facing to the front of the car ( like this: / ). But now, looking at other Bonneville's on this site running these rotors I've noticed that the slots are facing rearward ( like this: \ ).

Which direction is the correct one?

On mine they go / facing the front.

Also, FWIW, I only run these rotors up front, so they may be different for the back but shouldn't be.

when i did my vette mine are like the ones in the pic above. the top of the slot faces forward (makes contact with the pad 1st) per the directions IIRC. they should be labled with a L and a R to indicate left/right.

Cool! Just wanted to make sure that I didn't screw something up. Thanks everyone! :beerchug:

If the slot doesn't go all the way past the outer edge, it doesn't matter. The slot doesn't really do you any good anyway in that case. If the slot goes all the way to the edge, you want it the opposite of the picture above.

So what you're saying is that that slots on these rotors are just a sales gimmick and won't do anything for dispersing heat?

They've never been about dispersing heat, it's about removing gas from between the pad and the rotor, and helping pad material have a place to escape as it wears. However, if the slots don't go all the way to the edge of the rotor, they really don't do a whole lot for de-gassing and removing material...

And if they go all the way to the edge, they also aid in shedding water.

The problem lies in manufacturing technique. In order for the rotor to be as strong and not prone to cracking with slots all the way to the edge, they have to be hardened after slotting. This is more expensive than not.

Yes, non-edge-relieved slotted rotors do help with pad gasses better than non-slotted, but they're not nearly as good as fully-relieved to the edge, which is how Powerslot USED to make them. Yours will be no advantage on rainy days, either.

don't the slots help "Clear/clean" the pad as well to help prevent glazing and what not?

Sure, until the slots plug up with pad material and can't clear themselves out because they're not relieved to the edge of the rotor. After about the first or second week, the slot is useless (unless relieved to the edge).

Think about how it works. Make sense?

I understand how it works... to be honest with you my Power Slot rotors have never plugged on my vette and i have done a few good solid stops... Maybe i don't hammer then hard enough. Lol i know what your saying, we had 4 Lotus Evora's (pre-production models) stop in at our Lexus dealer and the drilled holes were plugged 99% and had hair line stress cracks on them, i guess they were in AZ doing some hard driving testing the cars (had all kinds of testing equipment hooked up to the cars, taped to the bodies and what not).

After 4 months now of some crazy dusty pads, my slots are still clear. FWIW

Depending on pad material, driving habits, and environment, don't plan on them staying clear in the long term. I've had 2 sets of slotted rotors in the past, and both had problems in varying degrees. I use a screwdriver to clear the slots at least once a year.
