Has anyone ever attempted this, and know if it's even possible? A nothstar v8 swap into a 92-99 style bonneville. I have this friend at wok who recently purchased a mid -late 90's cadillac with the northstar in it very cheap, it runs but needs brake work, and its been sitting for awhile. I know him well and he always goes through cars, and will probably give up on thisone by spring. I had a thought in my head when he said he was buying a v8 seville. would it be possible to swap this drivetrain into my 92 bonneville? the newer style bonnevilles were available with the northstar, and dimensionally I dont think they are too far different.

So has anyone ever done this before?

You'd be swapping a motor known for its reliability and long life for an engine renown for issues and short life. IMHO, don't do it. You'd be way better off swapping something like a Series II S/C in...

I've seen some '86-89 LeSabres with the Northstar swap.

Im sure its possible, but you would need custom work obviously. Also if you actually went through the trouble it would be a good idea to rebuild it first as there would be zero room to do repairs in the car. Remember you would be putting a V8 into a car designed for the V6.

I would not bother to swap in a Northstar, But its completely up to you..

The H and C Platforms from 85-96 are really the same car.. The largest V8 used in the C/H FWD platform was the caddy 4.9( 300 CI ) V8.. The car was designed to house the 3.8 and caddy line of Pushrod V8's... The early years were the 4.1's then the 4.5's and the last few years the 4.9..

Hmm didn't know they acrually designed for the caddy engines, i figured it was more like the GP where they just stuffed the LS4 into it

Thanx for all the helpfull input guys, of course I dont know if I'd be able to get the caddy from my friend at least dirt cheap, but since I still have this ssei sitting around I wanted to swap out the drivetrain from into my 92 se, and of course the thought of a v8 popped in my head as well. Of course if I did get this car for the drivetrain, it would all be fully rebuilt by me before going in the car. Does anyone know of any links or threads about someone who has done this to a 92-99 style bonne? I searhced google, but of course all i get in information about the newer style and northstars.

If you do decide to Northstar swap, stud the motor and regasket from top to bottom while it's out and you will be bulletproof for many years and many miles: http://www.northstarperformance.com/sgstuds2.php
