My fiance is buying me some new tires for xmas. I'm looking for tires that are great in snow (michigan winters suck), and still look sporty. I am looking at the Michelin Hydroedge's or the Goodyear Triple Tred's. Does anyone have these tires that could shine some light on this subject? Or are there any other tires that I should look at?

I wouldn't consider either tire to be "great" in the snow. It really depends on how much driving you intend to do.

I have a set of the Michelins as my "summer" wheels. They're a decent tire, quiet enough, and the hydroplaning resistance is pretty awesome. Both it and the Goodyear have a super high treadwear rating. The hard tread compound isn't going to win any traction awards, wet or dry.

For the money, I think you can do better than Hydroedge. I only have them because I scored a super deal on a used set on craigslist.

I like my tripletreds for what they are. I got some decent 60' times (2.159) at the track with them, and they've done well in all conditions, including snow and ice. They're not going to last the 60 or 80,000 miles they're rated for, though. Mine will be lucky to last me 30,000. I do drive fairly aggressively, and have done some burnouts on them, but they were never going to last that many miles. I won't be getting them again, however, mostly because I'm going to switch to summer/winter sets.
