when you think you're car doesn't have much power -just pull the SC belt off.
My idler pulley just gave out while driving (I didn't notice it and now my belt has a nice V-groove ACROSS the belt from rubbing on the HB.
I realized I had no belt when I went to pass the car and it felt gutless (passenger just thought it wasn't as fast as I had said it was) and that's when I looked at a boost guage indicating 0 vacuum/boost.

Oh well, I supposed I'll change those tomorrow while the guy is working on adding a nice feature to the car.

Same thing happened to me, except I lost the pulley and belt. Completely gone. I immediately noticed there was no SC whine. I just left it like that. I have been running with no SC belt for a month now.

It really keeps me out of the gas and my mileage has shown improvement. It also took care of all minor KR issues I was having

Andrew -did you notice after about 100 miles that the computer had adjusted everything?
I have gotten the most miles on my current tank -more than I've ever gotten before @ 381 miles with 1/3 tank left.

Also, I noticed that although still slow, once it hits about 4k rpm it is like a small turbo kicks in. Yesterday I did 65-112 and was surprised how hard it pulled from about 85 and up. Felt VERY STRONG considering there was no boost. Exhaust was finally getting some good velocity.

I haven't really been keeping track of my MPG's... I have been filling up when it gets to 3/4 tank because gas is so cheap.

I also haven't got above 3000 RPM in the last month.

And that's a great point that should be made. 91-95 L67's should NEVER attempt this, as the SC belt also drives the water pump.

That happend once to me on my 97, it was considerably slower, and i only had it like that for a few hours, cant stand not having boost lol

I'd like to run it longer, but when the belt came off it just had one little spot that was touching the other belt, but I shut the car off immediately when I heard the pulley bouncing under the car. Supposed to be getting the new belts put on tomorrow.
I have picked up new Gatorback belts for both the SC and accessory drive systems, as well as new idler pulleys for the one that self destructed and the one that is hidden inside the torque-axis mount since that'll be accessible when I am putting the new belts on.

And yes, this is only some thing a Series II/III can get away with for more than 30 seconds.

Hey Andrew, why not sell the SSEi to me and buy something with a 4 cylinder?!

haha, all kidding aside, why have a car with all those performance mods if you can't have fun with it.

I understand the importance of mpg's, but If i had to remove a belt from my car and impair the performance of the car, I would say I'm driving the wrong car.

I still have the same driving characteristics.
The lack of boost means less fuel demand and that translates into better MPG's. If I had a W-body (possibly soon) or a 97+ C body or 00+ SSEi it'd be easy to pop the belt off, and remove the rotors over the winter when the boost is not needed, or anytime when MPG's is the main concern.

Marty..please remember that you don't need to remove the mount in order to change belts. Only a bolt/stud and spacer. The pulley does require the mount to come off.

True, but think of the lack of airflow into the intake. Its basically cut off because of the rotors not doing any pushing.

Same happened to me on my 98. It took the pulley, belt, and all. Quite the mess.

As for running without the belt it doesn't sound like a good idea. Theory has me believe there would be a large obstruction to airflow to get around static SC rotors.

The pulley behind the torque axis mount has a little bit of a rough feel when spinning it by hand. That's why I'm replacing it.
I suppose I better bring back this plastic pulley for behind the torque axis mount and get a metal one -the metal is cheaper and typically lasts longer.
