So as the title suggests, I received a head unit from a 1998 Bonneville. It's a tape player, but it has the 7 equalizer band. I was contemplating putting it into my 88' and wondered if it would fit. Anyone know the dimensions? I'm also not concerned about the theft lock, already have that taken care of. Thanks!

The connector on the back is likely going to be different and if it came from an factory amplified car, it may not work in a non-amplified one. The data bus is probably different. You will need to look at wiring diagrams and pin outs from both units to see if it is possible to make an adaptor harness.

I put a 90's bonneville 5-band in my GTA.
In the 3rd gen F-body world, I have heard of people using late 80"s bonneville radios as replacements for firebirds with steering wheel controls.
I have also seen several 7-bands in 3rd gen birds (red back lighting makes it desirable to swap from Pontiac to Pontiac).

In regard to fitment in my swap, I had to use the side brackets from a 3rd gen and had to re-locate the pin on the back of the radio from one hole to another.
Everything was bolt on though.

Had to make a custom adapter harness and the radio I had could be used without the subwoofer amp.

I appreciate the answers guys, I've also done a ton of research. Apparently, any 80's to about 2002 GM radio can be swapped in until they switched to the double din and class2 data feed. Plus I have no wires to cut, they make adapters that you can pick up. My only concern was if the units were bigger dimension wise compared to the older ones as fitment might be an issue.

On the lesabre I had to make a simple sheet metal bracket to hold the stereo in as the old stereo bin has a different bolt pattern than the new ones. It was literally a 4" x 1/2" piece of sheet metal with the two screw holes that match the car. The new stereo has the same mount depth but you will have to remove any extra plastic bits in the back of the head unit, I thought there were two alignment pins.

The dash bin on the Bonneville might be a little different than the LeSabre, you might have to trim things to fit.

I kinda figured but it was all for naught, when I went to look at it the guy had it set up on a bench so I could see that it worked and was a good part. He turned it on and it burnt out right there lol, never seen anyone that pissed at a radio. Anyhow, he had a 5 band equalizer out of a 91' truck and sold me that instead. I'll get that in and post some pics. Thanks for the input guys.

I tried this last year on my dad's 1988 Olds Eighty-Eight. The Bonneville radio physically fit in the dash, but the connector was different.
