Usually the cause of the is hard acceleration while turning. I doubt it would happen one time, would have to take repeated abuse to do that much damage but that's besides the point.

Have never done this myself but I have heard that it is possible to just replace the differential and the housing. IF it hasn't already shot metal throughout the transmission, thus trashing the rest of the trans in short order. I would pull the pan and see what you find.

Hopefully someone with a little more experience will chime in as well.

This^^^ Seen it happen to personal cars and friend's. Most of the time I've seen it happen while just driving normally as well.

Just make sure you put a new filter in, not the cheapo one that most parts stores have, and fresh fluid.

For those who are too lazy.

Yep, diff pin appears to be missing. You can replace it, just make sure to do a thorough flush of the trans lines and cooler, you don't want to recirculate any junk that may have gotten through already.

The gears are ate up too, so if i find the right gears(3:06) i should be able to just put in a new diff and case, flush it and be good? If it helps the car doesnt even have park, no gears what so ever.

Nobody can tell you for sure. It'll be a gamble no matter what. As mentioned, dropping the pan, changing the fluid/filter, and flushing the trans cooler (or running a new external) will all increase the chance it could work.

Both sides turn what left of the gears inside so my cv's and internal shafts are good, im worried about how much metal went thru the system so im goin to drop the pan and see what all in there

The picture look like it was a quick break, more of a sudden failure, so probably not much aluminum shavings made it into the fluid. If it had made a clean break all the way around the cover, and the whole end of the cover popped off, I'd say it would have a lot of metal in the fluid.
