I rescued this baby from a junk yard. The engine had 119000 miles and is so clean you could eat off of it. The inside upholstery is like new. The paint has the clear coat rot. The guy I purchased it from told me it had Trany problems. It handles like a dream. When it was cold it went from stop to go correctly, but, when it warmed up it acted like it was starting in high instead of first. I checked the fluid and it really looked old so I started drawing out fluid thru the dipstick and replacing it with new fluid (5 qrts) plus 1/2 can of trans cleaner. After about a day it started to go from start a lot better. Yesterday I went to the store and as I pulled into the carport and pressed on the brake, shifted into Park, the car began to roll forward after I released the break. I hit the break and shifted into reverse but nothing happened. I can shift thru all gears and there is not even a hint that the transmission is working.
The sudden total shut-off makes me think that it is either a simple to fix problem or a major problem. Any and all help would be appreciated.

First thing to check: make sure the shift cable didn't come off the transmission (drivers side below the brake master cylinder, top rear of transmission). Does the shift lever feel like it has the normal stops, or is it free-moving?

Thanks MattStrike! The shifter had fallen off.
