If they look fine, I wouldn't do it. Pricey little buggers to replace just as preventative.

Ok, so here is maybe a good test. On the outer lower bushing, poke it with a screw driver, and see if it seems solid all around. if they don't feel hollow, or like the rubber is about to fall off, they are probably good. As long as the retainers are good, water can not really get to the metal core, that combined with my frame rusting through, did mine in I think.

Cheers :beerchug:

Thanks! I'll check them.

We don't have rust issues here like you do. Lived around Indy for 17 years. Back in the 60's some new cars would start to rust(tangs) in less than 1 year up there. - BC

I just read this thread about the bushings. Thanx for the informative content.
I wish I would have read this before i bought these Dorman Bushing kits.
http://www.dormanproducts.com/itemdetai ... me=924-043
As no other replacement bushings were listed on the Dorman site, I assumed that "one size fit all".
Will these fit all the mount positions or do I have to get the different sizes as noted in this thread?

I'll tell you, I bought two of those same Dorman bushing kits for my car last winter because the two passenger side bottom washers came out. The process was fairly simple in the beginning, until the one body nut broke free and we had to make an incision in the wheel well to weld the body nut back into place, filled it with grease and closed it back up.

HOWEVER, once we got it all installed, the rear most bushing has a small gap at the top and we spent a good hour and half trying to correct this. All mating surfaces were thoroughly cleaned. GM lists 3 different bushings for each location on each side (the Dorman kit has a Yellow and an unpainted bushing) I don't know if they are different sizes or just different stiffness/durometer but yeah I do have that gap on the one side. My friend that works at GM who did the work for me said it's because the other side is about to go as well and it's causing the subframe to be misaligned.

Take it for what it is, I wasn't impressed with still having the popping/clunking which I think is because of this gap, but I do believe he's right and it's caused by the other side needing to be replaced as well. I live in Canada, I had to wait a month for my parts to come in where I work. Good luck though

Need some help, was driving down the road close to my house and all of sudden I here a clunk and the car stalls, I get the truck pull it into the drive and open the hood seen nothing wrong. Then I looked under the car and found that all four front sub frame bushing had rusted out and dropped.
Cleaned the mounts they were not rusted out, I replaced all four bushing got it all back together but I still get no fire the car will not start.
I checked the steering linkage and it is fine the rubber boot was still in tacked and all the bolts are fine the wheel turns fine.
Any ideal why I can not get any fire is there some kind of safety cutoff when this happens.

Thanks for any help.
