I need to take the transmission out of my '89 Buick LeSabre.
I will be doing it in my garage at home, I have good floor jacks and an engine hoist, but no pit or car lift.
I see three alternatives;
Remove the subframe and take the transmission out of the side and under the car.
Lift the engine and transmission as one piece then separate them once out of the car.
Lift the car away from the complete engine/transmission/front suspension combination.

What are the pros and cons of the various choices, the car can be left in the garage as I have room for two cars in it. :)

Roger.

Look on the passenger side sub frame near the compressor, there should be bolts that hold the sub frame together there.. As well there should be bolts on the drivers side rear sub frame.. If the bolts are there you should be able to separate the section of sub frame with the engine supported, making trans removal easier.. Be prepared to replace the oil pressure sender as you will most likely break it in some manner trying to get the opposing trans bolt from the back..LOL

Having done this multiple times, out the top is the easiest, the only hard part is the DS trans mount

Well its out, I removed the whole engine/transmission assembly. while it's out I can clean up the engine bay and replace the freeze plugs and a few other jobs.
I will leave the transmission rebuild to the local specialist though. His services don't come cheap, but he's very good at his job.

Roger.
