Year and Trim: Back on deck... White 94 SSEi..
So I go start my car this morning let her warm up go to shift it into gear and it won't budge!! I can barely depress the thumb lock...Whats the deal?

Take and whack the shifter knob hard on top. It may have crept up a little bit which can keep it from properly functioning.

Here I was, thinking it was gonna be the "press brake to shift from park" linkage goofed up. When all it needed was a good whackin'.

That would stop the shift lever from moving but I believe the lock would release.

Mine used to have this problem form time to time. The little retaining clip was missing form the shifter boot, so it would sneak up every now and then. A good beat down kept it in it's place. ;)
