Year and Trim: 2000 SSEi
My 2000 SSEi died instantly and without warning, no sputtering or other signs of impending trouble. Everything I could see was completely blacked-out. The only sign of life was the orange "D" (for Drive) indicator on the dash. It was very dark but I managed to steer to the side of the road and come to a stop. After being stopped for a few seconds I turned the ignition key and the car immediately started, all accessories came back on (headlights / radio / HVAC / dash etc..). Definitely seems electrical or electronic. I proceeded to drive the car and it seemed fine. 300 miles later and still no problems. I checked the codes and nothing was found. The battery is less than 4 years old, connections are very tight. I ran the car and tried moving the cables and wiring but the car didn't skip a beat. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Worth a shot.

Back some time ago, 2000Silverbullet had an intermittent problem that was finally traced back to bad connections on the IGN1 fuse in the underhood fuse block. The fix was to push the contacts for the fuse in the block closer together, and to also put a slight twist on the legs of the fuse before inserting.

Thank you Archon, I will definitely give that a shot. It's a little scary driving this car at night considering I have no headlights when this happens!

Check the battery cable where it connects to the floorboard.

I know the feeling. Driving at highway speeds and everything shuts off! Toyota's should be so lucky.
I had that problem for months until the loose fuse was discovered.
Haven't had a problem since.
