Has anyone had any problems with using a 180 thermostat because the factory one is 195 degrees? and does it really help with performance?

No, and no.

It's a safety feature primarily for helping to prevent breakdown of the non-supercharged upper intake (or delay the inevitable unless you take a proactive preventive approach).

It does very little unless you take manual control of your radiator fans or PCM programming.

It will not cause any adverse effects with regards to mileage, and it's not worth 1 or 2 horsepower at the most.

Atom, are you asking what needs to be programmed? We need to know what year of car you have first.

Nothing HAS to be programmed, but it should.

the pcm should be programmed to account for the cooler temps. otherwise the system may fluctuate between closed and open loop, thinking the car hasn't warmed up yet.

Travis, that's not a big concern at all with a 180. When you go to 160, it is. What needs to be programmed to take advantage of the 180 is the fan turn-on temp.

Being a user of the Intense T-stat, yes, fans need to be reprogrammed with new low/high on temps, the 180 doesn't make a big change, my car does see lower temps most of the time, but after sitting in slower traffic for a bit it becomes very apparent that I should some day adjust my fan temps...

Make note the Intense one has a larger opening which they say keeps the flow better which results in lower temps (meaning closer to 180 more often)

How hot are your summers in the Ukraine? 90°F? It would help a little without programming, and you can do a manual radiator fan switch/override.
