i have both a 2000 and 2001 bonneville and been trying to get both of them back in good running condition. I have read the feed talking about the common problems but i have a couple other issues that werent addressed on that feed. on my 2001 i get a message on the data screen telling me to have the airbag system serviced, what does this entail?
on my 2000 i get a message telling me to service the antitheft system, but only during the winter when it gets really cold, just the other day that same message showed up on a cooler day after about 2 weeks of heat in the 90's, what does this mean?

The service antitheft system could be your key starting to wear out. Mine did the same thing and I read a post somewhere that said to replace the key. i went to the dealer picked up a new key and it has been good. Now it has been awhile but I believe the security light was also on. Some other folks on the forum may have some ideas too

For the air bag situation whenever the service air bag light comes on it means that there is a fault somewhere in the system. Somewhere in the wiring the computer has lost connection with one of the sensors. I always start with checking the fuse first. If its not the fuse its probably best to just have the car scanned at a shop to find out which one of the sensor is not communicating.

I get a service antitheft when its cold too.. once it warms up no problem.. i searched and most just ignore it.. its worth trying another key but it seems to be temp related.. im guessing a bad solder somewhere in one of the theft computers, doesnt seem to effect the car at all from everyone i heard and what ive experienced. try searching the board and google to see if others have found an answer (lesabre, riv and bonnie boards will problably all have this issue)

the air bag could be a few things.... with the power off and battery disconnected... pull the SRS fuse and make sure its good. check all the physicall connections you can access for the air bags, could be front air bag, side air bags or passangers. could be a corroded connection under the seat or a damaged wire.. hard to say without a tech tool to scan the BCM codes that tripped the light.. may need to take it in for diagnostics to know exactly what bag is the issue.

thats where i would start..

Thanks. I never thought about the key, but will give it a try and will definitely check out the airbag situation. I'll have to have another scan done on this one with the airbag problem and see what i come up with.

One other thing i forgot to mention is on my 2000 i'm having issues with the car loosing power for a brief moment...it normally runs anywhere from 14.5 to 14.9 volts, but with in the last few months it will drop down in the 13's and as low as 12.8, does this when in idle whether it be in gear or park...noticed that it happens more when it's really hot out. I had the battery and altenator tested and it came out good. about 4 years ago i replaced the crankshaft pos sensor - because the car was doing the same thing and it all went away after replacing it. not sure what to check next...
