Well last night on my way home I noticed the oil psi gauge was pegged at 120psi, and the aeroforce read 121psi. I can't say that I can complain since this is much better than 10 psi or less which I've delt with before  . Also we bought a replacement oil pressure sensor back in September but that ended up not being the problem so I kept it anyway. So I changed my plans today to changing the oil and sensor. Which was not a bad job at all. For some reason I thought it was going to be a PITA from what I've gathered from some the members here.

Anyway, after that was all done I started the car and noticed the engine was just kinda hoping around, not a lot just noticeable. So I asked dad to come over and take a look and I put it in and out of gear and dad said my mount was loose. So we switched places and it looked like the entire front mount was lifting about an inch off the frame. I put my hand down there almost under it (dumb idea, but I only got a minor pinch, lol) and sure enough the whole mount was lifting up. So i figured the bolt was loose or missing on the bottom. Not the case, it was there and I couldn't tighten it anymore than it was. So I pulled it out:

Lasted, oh, about 12k miles. I honestly didn't feel the mount going that bad though. I think it make have come apart last night, but I didn't realize it at the time...

So, my solution and what I should have done from the beginning, Solid front mount. I went out to Lowes and spent $10.62 on a 1/2" threaded rod, 4 3/4" nuts, two lock washers, 14 washers, of of which only 8 were needed. Plus the hockey pucks which I've had for a while. The threaded rod is only temporary though, which is why I didn't bother with cutting it. I'm gonna look for a grade 8 rod to use. It didn't say anywhere what the grade was for the threaded rod, so I asked a guy at Lowes said he knew exactly what I was doing when I told him, and said this rod would be fine for now but he recommends something stronger, which they didn't carry.

I'm happy with it. There is some noticeable vibrations, that don't really bother me much. But when I swap the end link bushings, whenever I get around to it, I'll probably use the old ones between the nuts and frame just to see where that gets me. Hell dad has a bunch of old ones from the Cougar that I could use. But there is no movement at all now. If I didn't know that I put it in gear I wouldn't know it, I don't feel a thing now. I think she reacts a bit quicker to the throttle now. That's probably just in my head though, I doubt I'd feel that difference.

nice pics of the mount. i was in the process of reading up on those hockey puck mounts and they seem to be pretty good minus the slight vibrations. i'm gonna do mine pretty soon. it looks pretty easy to do.. i'm pretty sure i have the same issue, it's not all that bad now but i wanna replace it anyway, and my oil pressure is pegged to, and my car is white. #-o hahaha

Doing the solid hockey puck mount isn't too hard at all. And much much cheaper, probably spent $15 all together vs $80 something IIRC for the stock replacement mount. Vibrations tend to vary by car, some people seem to have very bad vibrations and other have tolerable vibrations, but good luck with yours in any case!

As far as your '98 goes, I'm unsure. I'm sure someone will chime in and give you a concrete answer though. I know my '93 is not the same, but I'm unsure if the mounts changed in '96-'99 with the engine or not.

Grade 8 is fine in a tension application like this. Tension or compression loads are typically what this mount would see.

The 92-99 mounts are very different from this, and are all very similar from 92-99.

would a long grade 8 bolt work, vs a length of grade 8 allthread?

yeah, that's what most use anyway. I have been using grade 5 for quite a while now, no problems. You guys are putting more stress on it than me though i'm sure

You mean Grade 5? They don't make grade 6.

Ok, next time I'm at fastenal I'll get a 4.5" Grade 8 bolt, a mechanical lock nut and a nylock nut.

Go with at least 7". I used 8, and left an inch or so sticking out the top.

You need to figure in some length for some dampening underneath the frame (maybe an old endlink, or some type of rubber)

7" at least. I marked the rod where I was going to cut, but decided since I'm going to get another rod I wasn't going to bother. Looks like the 7" mark was just right. But It would probably make it a little bit easier if it was 7-1/2 or 8"

That's why I saved my old endlinks.

No. It's in the same location, but has a shock absorber, and is designed differently.
