It turns out the tank issue was a goofy design quirk. The aftermarket straps are slightly bent wrong and it is hard to notice the length difference. It just took a couple 2.5" bolts to put it in.

ooo, shiny

Just as a heads up to those watching the build, updates may be a bit more sporadic at the moment. The beast just needs to be replumbed and some temporary patches to make it ready for its hopeful appearance at the michigan meet (Although it might not handle so well...) Darn design quirks with my daily have been taking up some time and so has a house hunt

Also for those who actually know me, please look back at the first post for a bit of clarification

In planning for hopefully the near future with the beast, in terms or swaps. There are a couple of questions regarding newer features that have been plaguing me of late.
1.) Is the fuel tank pressure sensor truly necessary in the swap. The fuel tank changed a little bit after obd2 came into the picture and I was hoping not to have to modify the new tank too much.
2.) Since I haven't had a chance to get under the parts car, is the part that the transmission dog bone mounts to beefy enough to accept a back dated design mount.
3.) Is hybridizing the axle going to be the best plan to keep the simpler hub bearings?

1: not if you have HPT or DHP
2: not sure what you mean, but you need to either get a shorter dogbone, or make a custom adapter to use you mount on the 4t65.
3: yes, and no. You're best off grabbing the '92-'99 knuckle/hub/caliper/rotor, and putting it on your car with the axles from the donor. If you need to use the donor subframe to replace rotted parts, then it makes even more sense. You don't need the updated struts to do this.

Thanks MattStrike
1.) I've been talking to someone about tuning.
2.) I was looking to avoid the dog bone because I have to use the donor subframe..
3.) The hub bearings on my buick have a known history. The parts car does not.

Since it seems that I didn't really clue people in on the whole story of the upcoming swap. My buddy that had his 99 SE crashed and somewhat put back together has decided to say that he was done with the car and it is coming to me since the rear end is still very screwed up from the wreck.

I'm already working on an electronic copy of the wire harness schematic you'd need for the series 2 swap with that harness, I could probably help with that when you're ready, but would need model year specific pages from the CSM for some of the wiring stuff.

Axles are a pain to do. Likely you'd want to put the inner tripots from the donor onto your axles. This involves sourcing boots, clamps, a clamp tool, and being able to figure out how to take everything apart, keeping it clean, making a huge grease mess, making sure enough grease goes back in, etc. The problem you'll run into is that any parts store boot is going to be crap. They don't carry the band clamps or the tool, and the boots are just junk. You'd have to find an axle rebuilder (like Detroit axle) that is willing to sell you boots and clamps, and then you need to get the clamp tool online. Never re-use OE plastic boots, they won't seal properly. Also if you upgrade to the newer wheel/knuckle it gives you a 1" rotor diameter increase, for free, because you have a donor car.

On the fuel tank pressure sender, you can tap it into the evap line or the 3/4" rubber hose for the filler neck vent, so don't need to modify the tank if you don't want. If you Tee off the filler neck, you don't have to drop the tank again.

I appreciate that. I'm working on sourcing an extra C265 connector from another buick so i don't have to cut any of my cars wiring. I also have the 90, 91, and 99 FSM for the wiring.
I would probably want to tee off the vent, because that tank was more of a bear than i was expecting.
For the meet, it looks like it might be the same story as the past couple of years due to the car being torn down for the swap, but i shall have a bin of buick stuff to get done like the harness and i also want to pare down a main harness to see if i can avoid some of the hacking for stuff like the cruise control.

Today, I was down at Parts Galore and thankfully found all 3 of the mounts and also a bulkhead connector. Now next up is some heavy moving.. My car has to be turned around and the parts car has to be towed over so that mounts can be installed before dropping the frame.
Although, I was sad to see a really pretty 1st gen SSE there.

You put your original wheel bearings on a '92-'99 spindle?

I hope you aren't thinking original to the car.. If so the bearings are about 4.5 year old timken hubs.

Since the last post was made almost a month ago, the drivetrain has been pulled and the donor drivetrain is under the car. But i am doing a last minute thrash to make both subframes into one usable frame with at least 4 bushings so the car can be safely moved because i am in the paperwork phase of buying a house (Hopefully!) The 99 subframe had damage to 3 of the forward bushing slots and also all the suspension work had gone on the old frame. Then it should move on to piecing together axles and wiring.

Y U NO RUN! :joke:

Will do, hoping that a couple more things will appear over the next couple of days so I can start making it look like a rolling car again. The sketchy lift takes up way too much room lol.

Just to give a slight idea of what has come.. and what has yet to be done lol

I took a shot in the dark today, and managed to find a gem of a northern subframe. All of the rust is surface, and except for a misaligned hole from gm, i had to take it home with me. The donor motor is about to get torn down a little bit and a S1 water pump w/ pulley and some cooling system maintnance is to be done along with some longevity mods like the oil pressure kit. I'm hoping that i can get a shift kit in too after the car runs again.

It looks like the fun will take another turn for the better. In the form of a 24 by 24 garage :) Hopefully updates will be more forthcoming after my latest move into homeownership starting this coming weekend.
