Take a look at the following thread to read the demise of my '97 SE, which led to the purchase (about two hours ago) of my 2005 SE:

viewtopic.php?f=19&t=31087

So, I set out to spend about $4500 on something decent, something dependable. I test-drove four Bonnevilles and three Grand Prix's, all between '00-'02. ALL of them needed at minimum $700 work before I didn't have to worry about them. So, I saw this Bonnie listed, and although it's more than I wanted to spend ($6500 - before financing), it came with a six month warranty, and shifted and rode smoothly. This is Bonneville #4 for me, but my very first post-2000 Bonnie. I've only driven it about 20 miles (it's been a long day), but I'm excited about it. My '97 with a dead engine is sitting at the mechanics, and unfortunately will have to be scrapped because I don't have a garage. Before I scrap it though, I'm going to see how much he'll charge to swap the tires, and I need to pull my Infinity 6X9's and Alpine stereo deck outta there. The 2005 is a one owner, was garaged (not a speck of rust that I can find yet anywhere!), and has 147K miles on it.

*EDIT* I meant to say, that after driving four Grand Prix's (with the 3800), and three Bonnevilles that day (not counting the one I bought), all '00+, and all with SIGNIFICANTLY lower miles than my '97 SE (which had 225K on it), I didn't realize just how smooth my '97 drove and rode, and how spoiled I was with that car. That '97 ran SMOOTH as silk and I didn't even know it. Definitely one of those "Don't know what'cha got 'til it's gone" kinda things. But this '05 rides very smooth as well - but - seriously now - not quite as smooth as the '97, but I know the suspension is completely different, for one thing, and this is my first '00+ body style that I've owned, the other three were a '92, '93, and '97. I also haven't gutted the airbox yet, or replaced plugs, wires, PCV, fuel filter, etc. yet, all of which I did on the '97.

I've had a chance to finally get out and take it for a real ride - I LIKE this car A LOT!!!!!

Without further adieu, here's the new ride:

Looks great!!!

Unless you put 17's on your 97, you'd have to swap rims too, as those wheels are the SLE/SSEi 17's. They look great, but your tires won't swap onto them.

...and I see you have the same, thanks Beast! I'm sure that would have occurred to me within moments of trying to attempt it. Now I'm wondering if I could take the front pads and rotors, which only have maybe 2000 miles on them (on the '97 I mean) and put them on the rear of the '05? They did new pads/rotors on the front of the '05, but didn't touch the rears. They're fine for now, but I'd hate to just throw away practically new pads and rotors. Will it work?

No, the 00+ rear brakes are way different than the 97's fronts. Like trying to make apple juice with an orange.
