Well, I was hoping to get around to cleaning the car real good and posting up a new thread and some pics. Will need to wait for pictures since I dont have my cell phone cord to get the pics on my PC...So stay tuned for another thread with more pics of the car with new mods and exhaust pics..

But, as far as the exhaust..im LOVING IT!!!! I was with the exhaust guy the whole time during the install and was getting lots of questions. First of all, he was really curious about my choice of going with the Hooker Mufflers...he has done hundreds of 3800's through his years of service, and has never installed a set of Hookers, usually its always Flowmasters. (I used Rods suggestion here as he has 200K on his and they still sound great!! Thanks Rod!) I guess for installation purposes, the muffler itself is a little shorter in length, and makes pipe bending and installation much easier, which he fought with on my car. I was at the exhaust shop for roughly 4.5 hours. The tips still stick out a little farther than I originally wanted, but I like the way they turned out....all the piping from the stock resonator through the mufflers was painted flat black to help with weathering.

To bring everyone up to speed, my car has the ZZP (Stainless) PLog and the 2.5'' DP (304 stainless) with high flow cat up to the resonator. When getting the car quoted for the install, the owner said he had some 2.5 inch stainless laying around which he has had for awhile and said he would give me a good price on it. Just so happened to be in the 2.5 inch size just like I wanted. I jumped on the offer which he quoted to be $150 out the door from the OEM resonator to the tips.

He buttoned up everything while I looked under the rest of the vehicle checking struts, tie rods, etc since I dont have access to a lift. (notices I need to hit a few rust spots and undercoat it before winter comes) He lowered the car down and hit the key and the owners eyes lit up. The deep tone of the car without any "tinny" noise really caught him by surprise. He had never heard a 3800 with a tone as low as my car. Not really sure if its in combination of the mufflers with the other exhaust mods or what, but he was really impressed with the sound and has been in the business for many years. He was so thrilled, he even asked for a ride in the car..which he really complimented on my other mods!!

The car at low RPM sounds awesome and gives a great rumble! It was louder than I expected, but am getting used to it and am really loving it. On a hard take-off (higher RPM), the car actually loses a bit of its deep tone but once back to the lower RPM, its right back. It could also seem to be muffled a bit because the FWI is screaming and bringing in air. I want to get my buddies to drive my car and see how it sounds other than behind the drivers seat.

What Rod was referring to in earlier post..I was next to a WRX at a light and we both took off casually. He got stuck by traffic and couple lights later he rolled up next to me again. He ask what the car had for a motor. I just kinda laughed and said the N/A 3800 which he looked at me funny and was shocked. He was expecting me to say (at least) a supercharged V6 or V8. He didn't seem so thrilled to race after I told him my engine! lol..

All in all, very happy with the exhaust. I don't think I will be putting on any glass pack or anything at this point. If for some reason I get tired of the noise, maybe...but as for now, I love it!! :D

Lucas,

What undercoating do you recommend? I have been hearing I want a rubberized version.....Do you also have like little grinders so I can hit the rust spots first??

ive got a drill and a griding wheel

IMO and personal experience the only time you wanna use rubberized is when you plan on doing ten coats and making it a half inch thick, i did it on my truck and it may look good from 10 feet away but any closer than that it looks like complete ass

if it were me id use some POR 15, i havent had first hand experience with it but i hear good things..and i know someones garage we can raid that has some :-$

Hey shSSEi,

Those LED's came from V-LED's located on the West Coast. I have gotten all my lighting accessories from them and they are great to work with. My switchbacks have malfunctioned twice and they have gladly replaced them each time, even though the second set was out of warranty by like 6 months.

Every time I go to there sight, I find more goodies to buy..HAHA

Here is the link to here website..

OK now that it has been a couple of weeks, how does the new exhaust sound ? Did it change over the last two weeks, get louder or did it stay the same. Have you become accustom to the sound and have you gotten any compliments or negative comments on how your car sounds.

ROD
p.s. I have never had a bad thing said about how my car sounds, well I don't count what Paul says ;)

I think I have put around 400 miles on the car since they were installed...which mileage wise is WAY down for me...which I dont mind since I'm back in school and was getting tired of almost 1000 miles a week over the summer.

The car still sounds great, haven't really noticed any change in the tone or sound of the car. Its actually kinda funny how the sound changed from a cold start to when the car warms up. Meaning, when I start the car after sitting for hours, the thing sounds mean and is quite loud...but after the car warms up and at idle, the car just has a slight rumble to it but doesn't sound anything like it does when cold. Once you touch the pedal, the sound comes back when in lower RPM. The best way to describe the changes in tone from cold to warm is similar to the FWI for those of you who have one!!

Will be heading into Illinois with it this weekend...and really cleaning her up tomorrow, so get ready for some picture whorage!!!! :D

Yes a cold start on Cindy's car does the same thing, why I don't know. But after I would say 1 min. it sounds more mellow and stays that way all day until it sits all night, then it gets a little louder for that 1 minute. :-k
