A "thing" was done by yours truly in recent days.

I'll let you guys do a little guessing first. One here knows, and perhaps a second knows, so I don't want them blurting out the answer. :booty2:

After a few guesses, if I'm feeling "saucy" I may post a few pics. They will be dealer pics of course, as I drove it home in a torrential monsoon last night, so...

But yea, I did a "thing".

Alright, since the place is slow...

Yes, it's a G8. A 2009 Sport Red Metallic (my favorite color on the G8's), GT, 19's, sunroof and had less than 38k on the odometer. I turned 38k pulling in to the driveway on the way home.

I was actually looking at 2016/17 Slipstream Blue SS's. Had I gotten one of those the Cadillac would've had to go. Several issues took place that resulted in me not getting one;

1) Dealers not wanting to move on price.
2) Since STS-V's are hard to sell (many sit for months to years on AutoTrader), I figured I'd trade. Only to get insulted. It wasn't just low, it was half the value of the car.
3) While I have driven many G8's and SS's, they are spectacular cars (der, otherwise I wouldn't have gotten one), but driving the Caddy up to the dealer to test drive the '16 SS I did, and doing seat time literally back to back, made me realize quickly that the SS was simply NO replacement for the Cadillac. The SS is a great car. It would've made a great addition to the driveway. But it does not stand on par with the Cadillac. Plain and simple.

Getting in the SS, the seats were city bus hard, closing the door results in a tinny "clink" like a 1986 nissan sentra, while the car did get up and go, it was still noticably slower than the Caddy. Yes, mods change that perspective, but still... It handled great, but again, not anything the Caddy doesn't do, but the intrusion of road noise/tire noise/noise in general, clearly stood out. I think I'd have made a mistake by trading in...

So that lead me to rethink things. Coincidently, both of the SS's I was ready to sign away on, also got sold.

So I pondered to the wife to let me get rid of the POS van and get something in the $5k - $10k range. She was ok with this. So I looked up Bonneville GXP's, Regular N* STS's, Caprice's, etc, etc... The few I found were in the price range but also had 85k to 100k on the clock. She then reverted to "I want you to spend enough to get lower mileage and something you'll drive/own for years... Don't spend more than $18k."

I just so happened to find this G8, with 37,845 miles on the odo, at Ewald in Milwaukee, and it was a done deal. The car isn't perfect. The previous owner hit a parking curb or something as there is damage to the lower front of the fascia, typical scuffs/scratches, faded spoiler paint, but these are all correctable. The interior was spotless. Car came from Pensacola, FL.

I have not had time to clean it up and take great pics, but these were the other day here at work.

I will keep it moderately stock. Just basic little things, intake, axlebacks, HID's and other lighting (I really want to get those LED taillights), and maybe Camaro SS 20's. But this is to be a DD. So I don't need another modification money pit.

I'm a little leery on LED's for headlights and fogs just yet.

I wanted, well am, doing 6k in the heads like I do on everything and wanted to do 3k in the fogs. The problem with HID fogs, is 3k isn't really as yellow as I want them to be. At least the last few sets I've had, haven't been. So I looked at LED's. I'm just not there yet... I think my concern is the heat sinks/fans longevity in applications where water will get in. Also, the fog lights on the G8 aren't very deep. So you have to mindful of bulb length for anything putting in. It uses a really short 5202 bulb.

I ended up ordering 6k for the fogs too.

I've got LEDs in mine and I'm pretty pleased with them. I got fanless bulbs and 4" rubber dustcaps that seem to be working perfectly fine for the low beams. I actually put the same ones in our Town & Country. For the fogs, I didn't pay any mind to bulb length and the set I got are good. They are close to the headlight color, so not the yellow you want.

If the the headlights haven't gotten protective film yet, I suggest it.

Yea, still gonna hold out a little bit.

These housings were all clouded. I spent the other night with my FLEX going to town on them and got them cleaned up quite a bit, but they're still not completely clear. On my shopping list, should I see them on the G8Board or somewhere, is a nicer set.
