So it started out like any other Monday. But then I found something on craigslist. So of course by thursday I had managed to get out there to check it out, and was now hoping Friday would happen faster.

Finally, this happened:

Then a few hours later:

And soon enough, it was home!

This was one of those situations where the price was right, and I just couldn't pass it up. It's not a wildcat, but that's not important. What is important, is it's missing only a few pieces, it's mostly a complete car. The frame is solid, the body is straight, and anything on it that's rusty is something I'd end up replacing anyway.

I've got a bit of a learning curve with this one. What is up with that A/C unit? There's a bit of surface rust to clean up, but the only rotted piece I could find was the brace under the frame where the fuel tank straps mount. And other than the rear deck the interior is clean too.

It did not have a motor or trans. For most, I'm sure that would be a show stopper. Not for me. I have two Buick 455 motors sitting around and I'm sure it wouldn't take much for me to fit a TH-350 or a 700-r4 in there.

I believe that A/C is an aftermarket unit. It looks a lot like the one that was in my 63 Star Chief, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't factory. Maybe dealer installed, but not factory. I never got it working because the bracket that held the tensioner pulley for the belt was broken. It would blow air, but not cold air obviously (unless it was winter). Also it was the car all my kids learned to drive in and I figured if they got hot they could roll the window down.

Your new land-yacht should be a fun project. It looks to be in reasonable shape.

My Dad had a 1968 that was exactly the same body style. Ours was brown. It's a huge car. I agree the AC unit is aftermarket, possibly dealer installed. I think it's entirely possible that factory AC might not have been an option. I know ours didn't have air conditioning. I agree that you shouldn't have any trouble fitting a TH350 and the Buick 455. There's enough room under the hood to fit a couple of them! Your pictures bring back memories from my childhood!

I guess the important question is, is it worth keeping it?

The car or the A/C? If you're talkin' the A/C, I'd keep it for nostalgia's sake - it's classic!

Oh yeah, I have to agree completely. If you mean the A/C, you need to keep that. Those units are *still sold* for retrofitting old cars. The TV show "Wheeler Dealers" recently installed one exactly like that in this season (15) episode number 2, on a 1963 Volvo PV544.

As for the car, is it worth keeping? Dude; you have an unrusted 1967 Buick LeSabre. Heck yes keep it!

Not to mention the interior appears to be respectable.
