Sooooo.. After a 3 month hunt of trying to find out who now owns my old white Thunderbird, I got word yesterday that it's in birdy heaven. It was totaled in January. I was pretty sad bc I really wanted it back.. It was rare and only 500 were made like mine in 1991 and 500 in 1992.

Well.. CL loves me apparently. I lucked out and found a 1991 Thunderbird Sport 5.0L an hour away over in Illinois. I now own it. $850, needs a tranny. It's my blank canvas and I couldn't be more excited. It's gonna take a bit of work to make it like my old white one but it will be awesome.

Here she is Image

And this was my old one.. RIP Image

Ford isn't quite the dark side, Toyota on the other hand..... :poke: Anyways, beautiful bird! I've got a thing for the square one's of the 86-88 vintage. Grew up watching Bob Glidden tear up pro stock in one of those.

I like the 87/88 turbo coupe but I have a special place in my heart for the MN12 platform (89-97). I'm quite amazed at how clean this car is since it's a Midwest car.

I consider it the dark side. I was always taught not to say the four letter "F" word.

With that said, of the few fords I would like (have a soft spot for), were that T-Bird (my mother had a '90), as well as an '86 - '88 Turbo Coupe.

Other four letter "F" words I like;

'89 - '95 Taurus SHO's with a man pedal (looking at one now as a possible purchase)
'03 Cobra's
'99 - '04 Lightning's

Honorable mention to perhaps the SVO Mustang's of the 80's too (same motivation as the T-Bird TC's).

Birds are great cars. Especially the 5.0L H.O.

This is just MY opinion for course. My first car was a 89 thunderbird and from there I've had 7 or 8.. Maybe 9? Lol heck, I don't know anymore. The rarity of this car is why I bought it. With so few sports produced (500 in 1991), it's worth something to me. Maybe not to the general population lol.

I had added super coupe ground effects and rear bumper, and a spoiler to the old one. My goal is to have this silver one look like my white one. I'm going to have it repainted to a more silver metallic

I've always loved how these looked. Very unique! Can't wait to see what you do with it.

Thanks Carl. I'm the "black sheep" of this group lol. Even when I had my Bonneville, I owned a 95 thunderbird also. It was dubbed "the turd". It was well... Brown lol. I wasn't alone though. My dear friend Doug (mylittleblackbird) also owned a tbird.

Speaking of.. Any sign of Doug?? :poke:

Yea, I wouldn't go calling it a "great" car as afterall, it was a ford. ;)

I named hers Thunderchicken&biscuits, which evolved to Thunderbiscuit which is what stuck.

I've always had a soft spot for these, my parents had an 86 when I was little and a family friend had a 93 for ever and ever.

I have a liking for these too. How does the V8 compare to a 3.8 SC in your opinion? The SCs seem to turn up for sale every now and again.

Stock for stock, the SC is faster than the V8 - 5.0 or 4.6. Plus you can one with a 5spd. But I think the V8 is more dependable. The SC has headgasket issues as well as breaking harmonic balancers. They are still fun cars though.

I've owned more thunderbirds than anything in the 16 years that I've had my license. I've owned a 3.8 na, 3.8 sc, 4.6L and 5.0L.

Honestly the super coupes have balls. They can tear up my 5.0 in the long run but that's due to quicker shifting ratios in their transmissions. However, the 5.0L is the most dependable for the thunderbird. The 3.8's have head gasket issues, the 4.6 has it's own demons. And the perk of the 5.0 is parts are super cheap and a dime a dozen. If I had to choose, I'd get a 5.0 over the others. You can do a manual swap into the 5.0 and then that makes it a whole new animal. I'm actually considering doing this.

And mods? Oh don't even get me started lol. I can dump $500 into my car and blow doors off if GT 5.0 mustangs all day long. But the tranny needs to be beefed up a bit.

And melon, welcome to the group! Nice to see a fellow tbird lover. There is another, mylittleblackbird but he doesn't post much anymore.
