No worries here, there's only so much one can say about a half finished motor

LOL, alright then...

Here's a group shot. There might be a couple missing, but oh well:

A lot of them have a story behind them, some don't. All except the flintlocks and the old Winchester shoot very well, too. I'm too hesitant to fire those three due to their age, and lack of ammunition.

A small collection, but working on growing every year.

You can get safe vintage style ammo for that Winchester at any number of places and gun shows. On the other hand, you have plenty of others to shoot, so why bother?

I've got a couple of older shotguns like that. Damascus steel barrels instead of fluid steel. Only safe way to shoot them is with home-made FFFFg black-powder loads with toilet paper wads. Work pretty well, but the rest of your squad has to have a good sense of humor and a light breeze running across the skeet field. (Or you end up with an artificial cloud deck at about 5' )

Lol! I know about black powder and shooting the older guns. My two brothers and I each built black powder gun kits from Dixie Gun Works when we were teens. If there wasn't a breeze when shooting them, you were likely to gag on the sulferous smoke clouds.

Cleaning them up was a stinky business too.

I'll refrain from posting my collection:
a.) It would be as boring as watching a vacation slideshow,
b.) not all of the pieces are special by any stretch,
c.) it would scare the heck out of the neighbors and give some of you the wrong impression

Suffice to say when Kim jokes about us being able to arm a 3rd world nation, well.... ok, maybe a few squads, but less than a company size formation.

A few of the pieces are just facinating oddities. Like the Springfield 1898 Krag...wonderous example of craftsmanship circa 1900. Flawless fit and finish. But unlike a Mauser or other modern bolt guns that will feed anything that will fit in the magazine, the Krag will only feed ball ammunition loaded to military spec. It will jam on anything else, but give it what it was optimized for and it's the smoothest action ever...and oddest design. Just looking at it "This cannot possibly work right", but it does.

Inventory varies as items come and go. Currently about 40 between here and the farm in PA. When the CMP gets a batch and offers them up, I usually buy my quota and rebuild them to JCG match specs (1 MOA or better, all issue parts to meet the rules.) Money goes to support junior programs. Friends interested in trying out target shooting hit me up from time to time for something to go shoot a match with.

Me on a day off...in my other office

Another perspective..what we are shooting at: The little tan squares with black dots on them are about 5' across and are 300 yards down the line.

And, what it looks like in practice...

I haven't looked at that video in years... I can see all the mistakes I was making at the time. (like breaking position on each shot...wasting time that could be better used settling down on the target.)

My father is a huge fan of the Krag. The first one he owned was stolen about 35 years ago along with most everything else of value in our home while we were on vacation. About 15 years ago, he finally found another good one he wanted and added it to his much smaller collection. That thing kicks like a mule with the steel butt plate!
