Traded the XLT for a 2002 PT Cruiser Limited today. Light gold with light tan interior, leather/faux suede. 160K, heated seats, power windows, power moonroof, chrome rims, pretty decent little car, I'm happy with the straight up trade. Drove up to Brainerd to get it, was about halfway between me and her. No more than got back to Cloud, and she texted me saying CEL was on. No real concern, just wondering if I had any ideas. Darn it, what can ya do? Besides make a quick run into town in the PT, and kick a CEL in it #-o Ahh, the joys of owning a used vehicle. Haven't decided yet whether I'm gonna keep it or flip it, actually kinda like the stupid little thing. Used like no gas on the trip home. Will post pics tomorrow, but she's not exactly pretty in her present state lol.

Coming from a background of fixing PT Cruisers... I'd flip it... and fast. They are terribly unreliable. The transmissions are crap, the timing belt is a nightmare to replace, and front end suspension parts are notorious for breaking on a regular basis.

EDIT - And make sure the fuel line recall has been done... otherwise you'll have a fireball on your hands.

Looks really nice. The bumpers could use a new coat of bumper paint to blacken it up. The headlights could use polishing but looks like a primo trade!

XLT had to go. No need for 2 Explorers. And if I decide to flip, I feel like I'll have a lot easier time selling this one, Explorer was going nowhere fast, plus it was coming up on some maintenance I didn't really care to do.

Gonna do a full detail, headlight resto, try and blacken those bumpers back up, and fix that crack in the front bumper.

Yeah...out of all the vehicles that we work on, the most consistently expensive vehicle with the most insane repairs, besides anything Chrysler in general, is the PT Cruiser. Most insane labor time for timing belts, oddest problems, and probably most commonly towed in.

I'd rather own a 2.7L Sebring....or a Catera.

A CEL can be evil. FLIP THAT THING AND RUN.

I've heard that too. A friend of mine used to work in a local garage. He told me they had a PT Cruiser in for a timing belt change, and before too long, every mechanic in the place was stood round it, head scratching!

Why would you do that? Its easier to pull the engine to replace the timing belt on those engines

Sold it! Still have to clean it up, but I got rid of most of the lights in the dash, checked into the clunk, and aired up the tires. Will clean it up early next week for new owner to take delivery ;D

How much did you sell for? A coworker is looking to sell his 2006 with something like 140k miles.

His alternator went out, so it's VERY unreliable. He wants to get a Jag or Range Rover lol.

How much and how did you get rid of the lights in the dash.

I pulled the light bulbs itself.

I got $2500. Books for $3500, I was asking $3000, settled cause I just want it gone. It was unreliable so he wants a Jag or a Range Rover? Not gonna be much better, IMO lol.

^^ $2500 lol. Airbag light shut off one day and hasn't came back on, buyer is aware of it. CEL turned out to be a huge hole in some kind of fuel vapor return line. Foot of hose fixed that. E-brake light I'm still working on, kinda has me stumped. My buddy flips cars and pulls bulbs, not my style.
