so, we were driving to houston, and i ran over some debris. it was the remanent of a blown tire, and it couldnt be avoided.

now the rear bumper cover on my fiances 04 altima is ripped. what can i do to fix it, temporarily? just so its not flapping until i can get a replacement.

some pics, hopefully someone will have a suggestion, bc without some help, ill just end up putting silicone on it to hold until i can get a new bumper for her. it doesnt have to be beautiful, it just needs to hold or an indeterminate length of time.

Metal or plastic strap with a few bolts/screws?

Duct tape would blend in well lol..

that depends on nancy. if it were my car, temporarily would be about a week. but being nancys car, if i can make it passable she easily might plan to just "let it be"

How about a little piece of strap metal riveted in from behind? Then you can fill in the crack and paint the filler and rivets... it would kinda blend in :dontknow:

Stitch and Glue to the rescue.

Drill small holes on either side of the tear (about 1/16th to 3/32nd drill bit) Use a dremel tool to cut shallow grooves to connect the holes. Lace it together with heavy cotton thread, if your connecting grooves are straight and even, all the threads wll lie below the surface of the panel. Fill with baking soda and apply super-glue (like Zap or Jet hobby store stuff)

The super glue will fill the cotton thread, the tear, and mix with the baking soda to make a sandable filler. Much stronger than plastic-welding and less obtrusive that putting screws or pop rivets through it.

Here's an example:

That's a soft plastic CBR600F3 fairing that had the tip snapped off. I've stitched and glued it back together in the manner I just described. The repair went well enough that once it was repainted, you could not see the repair. It also survived a second impact with mother earth.
