Well I really like the silver and changing color is pricey. Plus I have other plans for that cash so, ya silver it is...sorry

Those intake ports are pretty gunky. At least you know it hasn't injested any coolant recently, that would tend to clean the ports. Though it looks like the gasket around the coolant passages were starting to go. They look like they might be original.

I was thinking it was looking gunky as well, anything I can do about that?

Some sort of spray cleaner. I don't know what to suggest that is safe for surfaces like valve seats.

So I got the motor torn down as far as I plan on taking it, and I think it looks pretty good. I took the main bearing cap off and inspected the bearing. The bearing looked pretty good, very light scuffing but that was it. no discoloration no deep grove. Anyway now to put it all back together and make it look pretty.

Thats it for now. Now I have to put it all back together and make it look pretty.

You should replace the timing set and interrupter while you are there.

Guess when I was typing, it made sense, but I can see it wasn't worded the best. But no I am putting a cam, double roller, valve springs and seals, and retainers, N*, TOGs, 3.4, Might chamfer the LIM and heads lightly...maybe. Aluminum oil pan, and so on and so on.

right now a shift kit (have an ZZP kit, but thinking about going with a transgo/intense kit), not real sure what to really up grade there, but funds are not all that plentiful, so whatever I do will need to be moderately priced.

I'd go with the TransGo. Intense has them for around $90.

Not sure how easy it would be but the upgraded boost sleeve and a tranny cooler will keep you from having to rebuild the tranny any time soon. Lovin' this thread, btw.

The one thing I highly recommend for you and hope that you will do is replace the EPC( Electronic Pressure Control Solenoid ) This is known to fail and will be a PITA once the trans is in the car... Now is really the time to replace it and save some headaches.. The shift kit can be installed at any time, doing the Kit and the EPC at the same time will leave you with a very nice mannered Trans..

so the EPC I highly recommend, if there is anything else you buy, make it this......

I have a question. I had read somewhere that you need to remove the balance shaft sprocket to run the double roller timing chain. This in turn would cause the engine to vibrate at idle. Is this true? I know it would cause vibrations, just not sure if you really have to remove the sprocket?
