The Truck: Chevy 1500 2WD Single Cab/Long Bed
The Issue: Either the leaf springs or the rear shocks are causing a nasty squeak every time I press down on the rear, shift weight (like when hitting the brakes after reversing), or hit a speed bump/railroad track. I have cleaned out the leaf's and sprayed them with lithium grease, checked the rubber bump stops, and looked at the bushings on the frame connectors for the leaf springs. I cant really tell if anything is wrong there. I did notice that part of the shocks had vertical scratches on them, but I dont know if that is abnormal. Does anybody have any suggestions that I could check out? GMPD has Delco shocks for 65.99 shipped, but if thats the issue, these only got 39,XXX miles. Any thoughts?

check the driveline, make sure it's not the drive shaft moving around or the tailshaft housing on the tranny bouncing. my 91 has a problem that makes a knock that sounds like it could be anything, and it is caused by the two bolts that hold the tailshaft housing to the crossmember backing out and allowing for drivline movement it took me forever to find it.

I don't know what the 4l65-e's case looks like to know if something similar could be the culprit

i really thought I had a piece of suspension bumping somewhere until i found this

I know it is not the exhuast. I am pretty sure I can rule the shocks out after more investigation today.

The cause of the noise was the "clips" that go over the outer 2 leafs. When the leaf flexed, they were grinding/vibrating (sounds dirty...). I sprayed the crap out of the clips (all 4, even though I think only 2 were doing it). The noise and vibration went away instantly when I sprayed them, so hopefully it will stay that way for a while. If not, I may need some advice on what to put on them.

something heavier. motor oil, having a high film strength, is a good thing to drip over those types of things. won't wear out as quick as something in a can

guess i should track down the squeak in my RF suspension....yeah...maybe.

I doubt it will make that much of a difference, but the stuff I used was a "dry" lube, that was in a rattle can. It leaves a little bit of white residue where you overspray/coat stuff.
